bed liner, that's it for now
It just keeps getting worse. It's now spreading to the hood aswell! Is repainting the only option? Can I get the clear coat sanded and sprayed? what are my options?

    Thanks!

Possibly try wet sanding, then compounding with a microfiber cutting pad on a dual action buffer, followed by a paint polish, but it looks like the clear coat is failing, and where there's no clear coat its really hard/almost impossible to fix.

Should be able to wet sand and respray clear. If done properly shouldn't be able to tell

Just once you fix, wax your truck regularly.

Agreed. I just detailed my truck this past evening (not to take away from the topic)
Kind of like a love-hate relationship, it's muddy one day but you got to maintain that paint!

Looks like OP might have his hands full, the whole panel needs to be redone.

Same here! I just washed it yesterday and I'm going mudding today lol, I need to find time to put a sealant on it to protect that paint. And yeah that thing needs some real TLC! That Ammo NYC video you shared is really helpful I've seen it before, only thing about that is when wet sanding you take a lot of clear coat off so you can't really ever get too aggressive with that area ever again. Then again it looks like you're only option besides having it repainted. Which costs a A LOT to have done by a really good professional.

when shit like that gets started, its like a cancer that keeps coming back, soon its going to be like that across the entire truck and any of the clear coat that isn't a problem now, will separate and be a problem later.

sure you can do spot detailing to help some spots but there are no short cuts or half measures that will work here, the clear coat needs to be sanded off the whole truck then at this point its silly not to do a repaint (its already sanded and prepped) then cover that with another clear coat. in the long run this is the only solution to not have to deal with this issue again, plus it upgrades the truck value to have a nice fresh new paint job.

The same thing started to happen on my roof, even with religious waxing and clay barring. The only thing that prevents this is having a garage kept truck. As you can see from my sig (if you're on a desktop), I simply sealed up the problem before it got any worse, by using plastidip. $200 in supplies.

I'm suprised it hasn't gotten worse. Its spread since I got it, but it hasn't gotten worse. I was going to just plasti dip it for now but no that I dented the cab with a 2x12, I'll need to get it painted

its to bad but iv done body work for yrs in my dad and granddads business and once its that far if you wetsand it the thing is is that the metallic is all sanded out and if you just reclear it then it will be a totally diff color and easy to see the only thing you can do to do it nice is just repaint the roof and hood. that way it all matches and looks good. my 89 red is doingthe same thing.the price autobody shops charge now is totally ridiculous by the way, the paint is cheap, the materials are cheap, the labor is easy, so I don't understand why they think a paint job is several thousand dollars?if there is no real body work then its a wetsand and get all the edges very good get it good and clean before you start spraying and you are good.just my opinion on that I guess. hope this helps and its cheaper than a complete as long as the rest of the truck looks ok.

I work for a dealer that supplies parts to multiple body shops. Got a quote for $700 to do the hood and roof and the trim. Theres scratches and dents around the truck, but not as worried about it as I am with the hood and roof

if that's total including everything that is a fair price, that's actually the best quote ive heard. so id do it if I had the cash for sure. it would be nice if there was a easy fix other than repainting but to my knowledge no one has came up with it yet. hope you get it lookin new again, they are worth it.

Yep. Thats total price. I'm actually debating on when to do that. Seems like every time I turn around, something breaks on my truck. I've had a brake issue for months and cannot for the life of me figure it out lol. Plus, the trans fluid is brown/somewhat black and I dont know the service history on the trans. So I wouldnt want to waste the money on getting it painted and then have the trans go out or something like that

I got mine May of 2013. Since then I've replaced struts and shocks, air filter housing, MAF sensor, O2 sensor, inner and outer tie rods, upper and lower ball joints, tires, valve cover gaskets, carrier bearing, and some other stuff I don't remember lol. Plus, I had to pay over $1k for front end repairs after my accident. If it comes to something major going wrong, I'll just cut my losses and get another car/truck depending on what i can afford.
