It works great every other time in 2wd. I just need to figure out a different wire to splice it into so I am not running hot in 4wd.

Is it controlled by a thermostat or does it run all the time via the ignition switch ??

Are you using a relay and the ignition switch energizes the relay coil??

I thought most people run it off the thermostat with a kill switch for water crossings...

It is controlled by a thermostat relay controller. The ignition signal wire from the controller is spliced into a wire that turns the fan off when in 4wd. Other than that it turns on off perfectly. I just need to know a suitable place to tap the ignition signal wire so it works while in 4wd.

Would there be times you have the ignition switch on but the engine not running??

Is the relay in the engine compartment??

Not having the EWD for the 97 I would hook it into the switched side of the circuit opening relay that way your fan comes on with the fuel pump.

How much a draw does the relay coil have??

The fan is probably fused. Take a voltmeter, go under the hood to the fuse box, find a switched 12VDC source and then strip the fan wire and slide it in beside the fuse in the under hood fuse box. I would use a 15amp or higher fuse position. You now have power and your fan is protected by the fans own fuse.

Yes sometimes I would have the ignition switch on w/o engine running, not very often though. Yes the relay is in the engine compartment. Whats ewd? Not sure how much draw it has I will check it.

Followup: In many under hood fuse boxes there are unfused positions that may be used. Use voltmeter to find a switched one and connect wire to hot side. As long as your fan has a fuse you are ok.

Just put a switch in the truck. Run the switch to the terminal that kicks the fan on when the AC is running. I also added relays to power the fans and just use the controller box to activate the relays. I melted a fuse holder and a couple fuses wiring it the way Flexalite instructions say. More info somewhere in my build.
