I'm taking my 03 Xtra Cab to my family mechanic for the first time (since I bought it a few months ago). Just a normal check up and tune up, it will be the first time he will have looked at it. I gave him a list of things to look at and fix if he thought they were that bad: rough starting, low idle, tire alignment (pass side), ball joints, etc.. We will see how this turns out and if there are any serious problems that will warrant big bucks. I will let you guys know in a day or two what the damage is. In the mean time does anyone have info on that ball joint recall, because I know my lowers are bad.

Not too bad $110 for a tune up (plugs, wires, battery, manifold cleaning, throttle body cleaning, and a bunch of other shit).....butttt inner and outer tie rod ends for $330 and a new hub bearing assembly for the one side.

agreed, those prices are very fair and a good deal as long as its all genuine oem replacement parts being used, what ever you do, don't let them use aftermarket stuff

I have no idea if it's OEM or not. It a foreign auto repair place specializing in Japanese and European "imports". My family has used them for years and not had any real problems. Basically they're not out to get me.

I put a set of no name ball joints on my f150. 1 year later got to do it again

Most of the time I buy whatever is at the parts store, never had an issue besides the ball joints. And I think I go them off of ebay.

well I suggest you tell them you only want to use all Toyota oem dealer parts only, it may add another $200-$250 to the bill but it is more then worth it for the quality and long life of the parts and then it will be good for another 15 years instead of needing more work again to replace the same parts in 2 or 3 years

Definitely go with OEM ball joints. I got a set of Moogs for mine cause I couldnt afford OEM at the time. Going to have to be replacing my uppers soon

Well the total came to around $430 with a full tune up, ball joints, and something with the hub bearing. The tune up helped a lot, I regained a lot of torque (especially low end) and it idles better. We'll see how the ball joints hold up.
