So im gonna attempt next weekend to probably take my throttle body off again and give it another good cleaning to try and resolve an ever so slight rough idle. Im curious if there is a write up out there. And like the eagles said "been up and down this god damn highway, and haven't seen a god damn thing". Meaning i cant find a write up. To be honest this time id actually like to soak it for a day, to get those really hard to reach areas. Any ideas? Suggestions? Im sure id need to remove my tps. And for the record, my throttle body has no iac..

Make sure you use specific TB cleaner and not carb cleaner or brake cleaner. TB cleaner apparently leaves a film that resists gunk from sticking, the latter two will clean it but gunk will stick almost immediately.

It's really easy I can have the throttle body completely removed in under 10 mins... Iac valve is held on by 4 acres and is located under the tb... Careful because coolant will come out of the lines

I have always used the gallon can of carb dip you can buy at walmart.i use it on every carb and throttle body i clean.take the tps off or whatever elec. Is on it and soak it overnight.the plus about dipping them is that then it gets into all the internal little passages you can see letalone get to with spray cleaner.so it does work and alot of times they have gunk built up in em so bad that a quick spray clean cant clean.they have to be soaked to clean em good.thanks

I just did this today. Removed the whole thing, coolant lines and all.

Mine is an 04 so must be this throttle by wire everyone is talking about. There was no hole before the butterfly valve to indicate the presence of an IAC valve. However there are five or six tiny holes on the inlet just above the top of the Butterly valve. If you remove the plate on the top of the throttle body (four Philips head screws), you can see there is some kind of breather, so I cleaned that as well. Reused the gaskets. Not sure what torque specs are so I did tight but not gorilla tight.

The intake plenum and TB were both surprisingly clean and needed minimal wiping. Yearly air filter changes seem to be doing the trick. I sprayed the rest of the TB cleaner in the intake tube and tried to wipe out some of the gunk. Not sure if it did anything but since I was done with the can I figured I'd use the rest.

BTW, just use a tooth brush and a blue paper shop towel. No need to soak. Most of the stuff breaks apart after a few sprays. If the TB cleaner dries too fast before you wipe the residue, just spray some directly on the shop towel and go from there- it won't evaporate as fast.

Seems to have fixed an ever so slightly rough idle issue that I thought was ignition related, even though I just put new plugs and wires in.

I would recommend removing the whole thing because it's easier to work with that way. When you detach the coolant lines you will lose maybe 10-15mL of fluid. Not a big deal.

Yeah thanks for the heads up. Mind you i did all this 8 months ago or so. Also stopped using a k&n at the same time. I too pulled the plate off that has the 5 or so little wholes. Found out there is no replacement gasket from the dealer. I may still take it all apart and soak it. If i remember right its darn near impossible to clean in those little wholes. I have an ongoing uphill battle with a slightly rough idle. Am really racking my brain on what it could be.

If you use a toothbrush you can clean out the holes pretty well. So far I haven't noticed any more quivering feelings in the idle. Too early to tell though, I just did a lap around the block wide open.

Thats why i didnt specificly say that throttle body,i just meant any throttle body or carb that does have them, soaking is the only way to go.iv done it for yrs soaking and you never have to worry if you didnt get one unplugged or cleaned good.after soaking you can be assured its all clean everywhere the liquid gets.so not meaning the ones with no internal passages.but the soaking is the best way to go if you want a very thourough cleaning,it works great if you have the time to let it soak.so whichever way you decide to do it,is better than not.so have a great weekend,or at least whats left.
