I know this may seem a bit trivial and very shallow in the grand scheme of things, but I really like the look of the non-functioning hood scoops on Tacomas. Not that I'm expecting it to give me some sort of performance advantage or anything, but purely for aesthetic reasons. I was thinking about [IMG] [IMG] grabbing a scooped hood for my recently acquired 2009 Tacoma DCSB. I did happen to find a scooped hood that's supposed to be for an X-Runner Tacoma, but wanted to know if Tacoma hoods were all generally the same fit or if there would be compatibility issues. Yes, I know I could slap on a fake hood scoop and call it a day, but I'd prefer a hood with a seamlessly integrated scoop. I appreciate your time and consideration. [IMG]

As long as its a second gen, it will fit. All the same size.
scooped hoods come on the trd sport (2wd) and xrunner, all others- base and 4x4, have non-scooped hoods.

I see. So basically the mentioned 2WD models come with the scoops while the 4x4 variants do not.

That's an interesting look. Not sure if I'd run lights in a scoop though.

I have a 4x4. No TRD, SR5 or anything extra special. I think I'll just keep the stock scoopless hood. Thanks, guys.

That's not exactly true. If it is a TRD Sport trim then it will have the hood scoop and they can come in 4wd or 2wd.

Not to be confused with the other TRD package, the TRD Off-road, which doesn't have the scoop.

I too love the look of the scoop; however the people that do not know much about Tacomas "think" I have a supercharger or something under the hood. Had several ricers rev next to me at lights. Never thought my truck would attract ricers.

I like the look of the scoop too. I just didn't realize they were exclusive to certain models. Now I just worry that by adding a scoop, being that my 4x4 isn't a TRD Sport, that I'll come off as some kind of poseur. Like slapping an ///M badge on a non-M series BMW (I'm an old bimmer guy new to the trucking world).

The scoop gives me a clear advantage when mall crawling. Soccer moms and mini vans go crazy for the scoop. I carry a small bat under the front seat to keep the ladies off my taco when I get anywhere near a shopping plaza.

It's your truck brother. A lot of people like the look of the scoop (myself included). Since it's non-functioning it's not like slapping a "M" badge on a non "M". Don't worry about what others think. If you like it that's all that matters. Just make sure you get one that fits your truck since the redesign in 12. You'll need a 11 on back hood.

I bought a Sport Grill just because I can't stand chrome.

I've seen hood scoops on TRD Off Roads also.

I see. The panty-dropping factor is certainly something to consider. Since my hockey mom wife drives a mini van, maybe the scoop is the answer to reigniting the flames of passion in the bedroom.

Nice. What bumper is that? Love the look of the front end.

For what it's worth, that hood will fit your truck and you won't look like a "poser." Good call on getting a new hood rather than a stick on hood scoop (the XSP-X model Tacoma has a stick on scoop for reference). You will need the hood insert to couple with the hood you have pictured, though.

It's very common for guys to swap for scooped hoods and vice versa. Some like them, some don't. Contrary to what some people will tell you - it's okay to care about aesthetics.

I appreciate your input. I was very much into modding my bimmer years ago, but it was more performance oriented rather than eye-candy. Although it didn't hurt that some mods did plus up the visual profile of the car. I plan to roll the Taco in the dirt every once in a while, but I guess it doesn't hurt to look good doing it. You guys are awesome. Thanks.

I agree. I like the look of them. If I was in the market (and not dropping all this money on my truck for other things) I would get one.
