Does anyone know why the TC coil bucket tower gussets don't work on 1st gens?
The reason why I ask is because I just got off the phone with toytec here and apparently someone at TC told him the tower gussets won't work with 1st gens. Do I have to design my own?

Hey Jason I just got off the phone with TC and the issue is with one of the gussets touching some part of my 2.7 so I guess I'll order them and modify it however I need to. Thanks.

Sounds like a perfect reason to swap in a supercharged 5vz.

I still am trying to figure out how you would adapt the steering outer tie rod (which is supposed to have female threads) to a rod tube and finally the rod end which would then mate to the clevis at the end of the rack. A picture is definitely worth 1000 words here.

How much do they run for at the TW discount for if you want the heim spacers as well? In stock currently?

I spoke to Allpro recently and they tried to talk me out of running the heimed setup even if I retained one stock tie rod in the equation because of the fact that where the bending typically occurs which is in the center of the tie rod connections would be replaced by a strengthened rod tube now. So the rack would still be the weak point supposedly.

Still mid in the front man. About an inch shy of the 2+ "LT" kits. Why do you ask?

    Yes
Allpro mentioned the same thing to me a few years ago, they used to offer a heim steering kit and stopped selling it because of rack damage. The other problem I had a local shop warn me about was with adding heim steering to a stock knuckle location it can create bump steer because of the height of the misalignment spacer. All of the fab'd spindle big LT kits account for that and they locate the tie rod end accordingly to maintain the correct angles and avoid bump steer. Curious if Jberry can confirm that math...

I was looking at doing it purely due to ease of maintenance purposes. It would be easier for me to swap out a heim than it would be swapping out a tie rod. My drivers side OE rod lasted a total of 3 years and 60,000 miles. So I was thinking maybe doing the inner heim would offer more strength and longevity if ran with a boot, but if its going to be a problem I don't want to do that either.

It takes longer to wash the grease off your hands than to change an inner TRE.
And running a boot over a heim will just trap shit inside and destroy the heim liner faster.

If this quote didn't turn me off of running any kind of heimed steering, I don't know what else would. Good to know man, thanks dude. Looks like I'll pick up a MOOG replacement inner TRE wash my hands and call it a day for 2-3 more years.

Inner and outer tie rods are cheap too...would rather replace that then a heim joint
