Really considering running this size tire but I am wondering if any of you have experience buying chains? Seems like it being an odd size it might be difficult to find them.

Chains have a great number of sizes available. The tire dimensions seem to be a little different for each brand. You will be more successful if you pick the tire first. Quality chains have customer service pages and 800 numbers to insure a good fit. If you need chains, do not be foolish enough to risk your life to save a few dollars. You may need wheel spacers to add clearance for the front suspension. Quality chains will also not turn into a ball of rust, especially if you use a little soap and water.

My chains that fit my stock 265/70R16's fit my 255/85R16 KM2's although just barely. I've yet to need to use them though. My KM2's aired down have got me through everything so far.

I did test fit the chains though to know they work. Takes a lot more work and time than though them on the stock all terrains.

I thought i had read on tw somewhere that chains will rub upfront even with 265's, i live in alabama so i dont have to worry about that much but also most of the tires in this size are studded would that be a possible alternative?

Everyone on stock gears are u doing ur oil change intervals by odo or actual miles on 5000 miles at 7.5% thats an extra 375 miles. Not huge but i go 6k change the filter and go another 6k and do a full change so that would be like 800 miles right? I may go 5k and 5k by odo from now on just gettin everyone elses thoughts

I ended up going from 8000km to 5000km intervals using the ODO. For me its just easier to keep track of and with the tires, armor, and short commutes that I do, it cant hurt anything but my wallet. Also, if I cant get to the oil change right away I have a bit of leeway.

Hey guys just a quick question. I have stock TRD OR wheels and my 255/85 ST Maxx tires rub the front side of my uca's. Does anybody else have that issue or is is possibly an alignment issue?

Thanks, I'll have them redo the alignment and see what happens.

I was thinking the same thing too. The alignment they did last time doesn't look right so I need one anyways.

u rub anywhere on ur ride ryan? i have a spot about 1" and the width of a pencil on my frame from full lock and reverse, its not a big deal since its just the tip of the lug and its pretty much just knockin the dust off but i thought since we have the same set up urs might do it, or our alignment may be a little different

    I too am irresponsible.:anonymous:

What brand of UCAs do you have?
If the ball is fixed, they may not be able to get you 2-1/2 to 3 degrees of caster if they can only adjust camber on the LCAs.

It's probably here somewhere but I wanted to see how you guys feel about the perceived power loss that you get stepping up to this size of tire (and weight).

I understand that there is a MPG loss with this tire combo, but I don't want it to make the V6 feel like a dog by adding a tire of this size.

i like the way it feels now, its definately a lil slower but usually putt-putt around anyway so i dont notice it too much and it looks like i only lose 1 mpg moving up from 265/75. i would image it would be significantly great get up and go with 285's due to the weight, but i really cant say that for sure i guess. plus i can run 70 mph now at like 1900 rpm. i imagine my hwy mileage would actually increase a bit due to that fact. it is a truck tho and i didnt really buy it for speed, but i may one day build it for that ha

It won't be a dog, but you will lose some peppiness.
Mine still spun the tires when I stomped it once (empty) to test on worn concrete, and I ran it many times across Pennsylvania with half a ton on it using the turnpike which has some pretty good hills that drag down tractor trailers to 35~45 range while I was able to stay at 65.
I have a set of stock Rugged Trails that I picked up to test the ABS witch hunt that went on this past winter, and at 265/70/16 it is peppier than my Cooper S/T 255/85/16s. Mileage with the stock tires is 2~3 MPG better, and I have full skids, sliders, and ARB bumper with winch using 700# coils.

Edit: The Coopers are roughly 20lbs heavier than the stock tires.

No rubbing at all. This is the perfect size tire for somebody that doesn't want to trim anything.
