    Hey everyone,
I hope this is the right place to post this.
I need some help determining whether or not this person's asking price is fair. It seems that all Tacomas sell over KBB/NADA/Edmunds suggested price.
It's a black 97 cab v6 4x4 with 190,000 miles. I looked it over and drove it. Its' clean for an 18 year old vehicle. No weird noises driving or turning. 4 Wheel drive works fine. No shimmies or shakes at highway speed. It appears to be solid. Timing belt was also recently replaced (according to the owner). No major leaks anywhere. There's a bit of oil between the engine and clutch housing (I think). Not sure exactly what's leaking there or if that should be a concern.
Just based on my once over and 20 minute test drive, I feel fairly confident that it wouldn't let me down. However, the owner is dead set on $8,000. She put some money into repairs and wants it back now that she's selling. I suppose I can understand that.
Do you think that's a fair price or is she crazy for asking that much?

I appreciate the responses! Hopefully I can get it (or one) soon and be an active member here. Looks like you folks have a lot of knowledge.

It's a little high in my opinion. I paid $3,650 for my 1990 in 2013. My estimate would be around $6k.

Thanks for the response. I was thinking around 6k as well. Not sure if I should take the recent repairs, "$2-3k worth" according to her, into account and meet in the middle.

I paid 11k for my 03 last year, 159k miles. 2.7, 5spd ext cab. It was at a dealership though.

If you really like it and feel there isn't anything else on the local market that compares, you can offer to split the difference. Remember that if she didn't put that money into it, the truck wouldn't be running right and you wouldn't be interested. Nobody gets decent money for a broken down truck. When someone tells me how much money they spent on repairs recently, my first thought is to tell them that they repaired it because they had to replace parts that they wore out, not me.
