when my machine starts that it's usually because it's dirty or I have a stray thread stuck somewhere. Clean the machine, YouTube has some instructional videos if you're not sure.
Dull needles can cause it too. And have you tried adjusting the tension WHILE YOURE SEWING, not just while it's stationary? Use a scrap of the same fabric and sew and adjust at the same time, maintaining the same speed. Try about an inch, adjust, inch, adjust...do that twice, once increasing the tension and once decreasing. Then look at the results and see if some areas look better, sew/adjust back to that tension setting.

Thanks. We've tore both machines apart and cleaned them out finding nothing in them. We'll try adjusting the tension on the fly on the new machine and see what comes of it. We've done it on the old one without any luck.

I have to mess with my machine when I go from plain cotton, to flannel, to a full quilt with batting. Different materials sometimes require different settings. Sounds like you've already messed with it but if you remember where the tension setting was at brand new you should mark it. I just used a sharpie to put a dot on the dial, they're supposed to be preset from the factory so it's nice to know what setting to go back to.

I think it was set right down the middle. We just ran it like it was out of the box and all was fine for about 10 feet of sewing and it started acting up. That's when I pulled out the manual and read it front to back and did a bunch of googling and experimenting with the machine and learned a whole bunch about sewing that I had no idea about. I can fix it sometimes but it only seems to be temporary...

I've been talking with INL but they are really slow about going through resumes I guess. I applied for a new opening at a local place here in IF last weekend also. I haven't heard back from Micron yet. The recruiter will probably call sometime this week to set up a date though.

Is that a chipmunk/squirrel head in the log, just above the dandelion head?

It does kind of look like an animal head, but I don't think it was. I was too busy watching the deer though. haha

So the alarm system in the office has been beeping randomly for over a week. This morning the office manager finally told the maintenance guy that maybe he should look into why. Apparently he thought that it should just be ignored and now its beeping even more frequently.

No idea - its the security system and it also monitors the fire sprinklers, etc.

I've threatened to take a hammer to it until it stops if they don't figure it out soon.

we've also threatened to shoot it (we have a gun available) and to pour coffee on it in the hopes it will permanently short out.
