Yes, although like me you would need to create your own bezel for it.

Yes sir, or I should say it was for me. I have not personally seen the connectors for the 2013 but if it looks like the ones pictured than it should work.

I am actually using iGo maps because I don't have internet connected to it while on the road because Data packages are expensive here in Canada. But if you connect a 3G USB stick to it you can use Google Maps. Otherwise you could use the included iGo maps or even HERE from Nokia and just update it when you get home and connect to your wifi.

I would say it is really good but not as good as Google Maps because it isn't connected to the internet like Google Maps would be. I would say it is like using a Garmin (which by the way you can also install if you would rather use that, just download it from the Play Store. Think about it like using your phone, if you don't like something just download something different.

For standalone maps, if you can find the apk (it was only for Samsung devices for a while but may have expanded), try 'Here', they're an ex-Nokia company, and were one of the better offline maps.

I'm curious how you find the full android head unit - around the same time I was looking into them, Android Auto stuff came out and I ended up going that route. In general, I'd say I'm pretty happy to let the phone do the heavy lifting and the data connection.

There's been some work to reverse engineer the android auto head unit code into other tablets, so you might be able to get the best of both worlds in the future, though the process was pretty janky the last time I looked at it. This guy hacked the protocol and made his own head-unit apk that runs on nexus tablets.

    http://www.androidheadlines.com/201...o-an-android-auto-headunit-with-this-app.html

I don't imagine there's much specific to the nexus in there; you'd need either otg or usb host built into the head unit. I assume it probably has host already.

Could you use Waze for the navigation?

Yes, it looks like it likes an internet connection though? Which is fine as long as you either connect it to your phone or plug on a 3G stick to the head unit.

Thanks! I looked into HERE and it is actually available on the App Store now as a standalone app. I considered downloading it because it looks really great but the size of the maps scared me off a little bit for now. Right now iGO seems to be working pretty good for me although I am considering getting a 3G stick for it and just using Google Maps which would always be live.

I did a done of research on integrating tablets into my truck before I did this and in the end the issues that held me back were bluetooth connectivity, backup camera, steering wheel controls and the best way to amplify music. After months of research I decided on going this route and so far I don't regret it at all! I love it. I installed a custom launcher right away and made it my own. I love the fact that out of the box everything just works and will grow with me as I want it to.

Thanks for checking. It does need internet, it gives real time traffic, police, road hazzard, etc info reported by drivers.

Yeah the maps are big - but storage is (fairly) cheap. It'd be nice if they broke it down per state in the US, but it's still one of the best options out there for offline maps and offline routes.

re: tab - it should be "android is android" more or less, I can't think of any reason off the top of my head why you couldn't run that auto-head-unit emulator on your android unit. the only gotchas would be the USB host mode stuff, but if your head unit supports plugging in usb drives or anything like that, you've got host mode.
