LOL. Either some people need more church or more classic cartoons. Take your pick, improvement either way.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Do you have a 4 cylinder? My V6 and other V6 Tacomas have no trouble holding speed up hills. Even my antique 3.4 5VZ-FE cruises up steep hills with power to spare. Maybe it's just me but I believe Toyota makes a pretty robust V6 for the Tacoma. I don't think the new 3.5 Atkinson will disappoint either.

its a v6. Im sure it would be fine with the 5spd. I am swapping in a 5spd as soon as I can kill this auto. It does great on the flats, but anytime I point her west she struggles a bit. Im not sure about the altitude in Montana but my climbs start at around 7000ft.

I had a high mileage DI engine car that I purchased used (Audi A3) and at 70,000 miles I had to get the valves manually cleaned at a cost of $700 and 6 hours of tech time. I have tried to do research on DI engines since then to see what could solve my problem. The best I came up with was to use high octane non ethanol fuel and hope for the best. If I understand correctly, the problem with DI engines is that the fuel bypasses the intake but PCV is still dumping dirty in there. with no fuel going through the intake it just gets caked with carbon over months/years to the point where it impacts the engine (mine threw misfire codes).

it seems that the combination port fuel and DI is an outstanding solution to my issues with a DI engine... being that I don't know what the hell I am talking about, I wonder if anyone else has thought of this

D4-S is designed to prevent the valve coking issue.

This was my experience with my 07 VW GTI (same engine as the A3). I sold it before before getting the valves cleaned, but it was starting to have random misfires at 60,000 miles due to this issue. Port fuel injection was one of my main requirements when looking for a replacement vehicle, which ended up being the Taco. Glad to see that Toyota is incorporating port injection into their new engine.

Will the vehicle be able to tell if the pcv hose isn't connected to the intake?

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Ford's eco boost has this issue too with misfires developing. Even worse, if you run cleaner through your Ecoboost engine (like seafoam) you will toast your turbo.

Toyota uses the multi port for a number of reasons including cleaner combustion at lower RPM's.

my brain pondered the DI problem for years without a solution.... then came Toyota (or whoever came up with port and DI) to fix the issue... best of DI when it makes sense and Port injection to clean the intake and valves.... I feel much better about DI engines now. I still would not touch a normal DI engine having gone through the pains I did in the past.

I tried an intake cleaner after the codes showed up... according to the tech, all it did was clean a path to the only valve that was still breathing well.... the cleaner took the best path and ignored the other valves with their issues... I came to the conclusion that if you already have the issue an intake cleaner will not work... I don't have the balls to seafoam after watching how to do it.
