Does anyone here have any experience with filters set up on the transmission cooling line? If so, what did you think and what type would you recommend?

    Thanks!

I have run external filters on my other trucks, and am about to install one on my Tacoma.

I use a Derale filter (same size as a short PH8A) and a generic filter mount.

To plumb it, filter the fluid before cooling it. Ideally, plumb the fluid to flow transmission -> filter -> radiator cooler -> auxiliary cooler -> transmission If you want to add a transmission temperature gauge, the filter mount is a great place to add a sender - that way, you can monitor the temperature of the fluid at the hottest point.

As for mounting the filter, I have been looking at mounting on the front of the core support, to the vehicle-right side of the radiator.

I am also planning on replacing my aux cooler with a larger one. Heat kills transmissions.

Thanks for the input. I just bought a filter mount kit and I'll be installing it as soon as it arrives. I will probably get a filter magnet of some type as well to catch any ferrous debris that might pass through the filter media.

I forget to mention that I always use a filter magnet, too. Can't be too careful!
