I decided to make this little review of my work truck, a base 2015 Chevy Silverado 8 foot bed with the 4.3 EcoTec V6, just to shed some light on the claimed unreliability of Chevys. I got the truck in January of this year. So far I have put 20k miles on it which should be enough to let the truck break in. When I got the truck, all was good. Rode smooth, quiet, good pickup for the highway, etc.

As a few weeks went by, I started to notice some quirks with the truck. The transmission would shift very awkwardly when shifting from 2nd to 3rd under medium acceleration. Pretty much the truck would in a sense "buck" and would be a very rough shift. At the same time, I was getting a VERY annoying squeak from the passenger seat. Happened every time I hit a bump (I live and work in New Orleans so there's bumps everywhere lol). But, after 4k miles of dealing with the squeak, it went away.

After these issues started, some more occurred. At around 5-6k miles, it developed a rough idle. For example, if I had a Barqs Root Beer sitting in the cup holder, it would be flat after my 1st set of deliveries. It would also ride rough on the highway (even smooth, freshly paved highways). Sometimes the drink would start to vibrate the drink out of the cup holder. Also, there's the issue with the driveline. When coming to a stop from around 35-40 mph or faster, the truck will lurch as it downshifts causing me to have to push harder on the brakes to come to a safe stop. This issue is also accompanied by a whining sound as well as a crackling, metal on metal sound when stopping at those speeds.

Just recently, I had to bring the truck in to get some other issues worked out. The AC just randomly stopped working. It would only blow hot air. Also, the radio and clock will randomly cut out and would have to be reprogrammed.

In all, I do not want this to seem like a thrashing post or anything like that, I just want to share my experiences with this truck. I am not the only one with most of these issues. All the other drivers are having almost all of these issues.

There are some good things about the truck that I like though. I like the space it has on the inside as well as the space of the bed. I also like the guage cluster. Gives you all the information you need (I keep mine on the digital speed). And last, but not least, I like the engine. Its no V8, but it puts out decent power and sounds pretty good for a V6.

    What do you guys think?

I used to work out west for the US Forest Service and had a 2011 Silverado base 4x4, v8. I did a fair bit of highway driving, and a LOT of poorly maintained fire/logging road driving. The good was that the truck was powerful, spacious, and fairly comfortable in "offroad". The bad was the truck had a very cheap looking interior, and a lot of low hanging parts. While the suspension may have actually provided more clearance along most parts of the truck than a stock Tacoma, the front bumper and rear axle pumpkin got hung up on stuff all the time.

I'll also note that the clock and radio would randomly cut out and require reprogramming, just like Nola described above.

I definitely thought about buying one when I was looking a trucks a year ago. Happy I went with that taco though :)

    Just my 2cents.
