Amarok maybe , I doubt Toyota would bring the Hilux to compete in the same market as the Tacoma

I doubt that a repeal of the chicken tax would result in the Hilux coming to the USA. It COULD help bring the VW Amarok and Ford Ranger here though! :D

    1) they don't meet emissions
2)Toyota won't compete with themselves and offer 2 trucks for the same target market

I'm not disagreeing with either, but what happens if you try to register the vehicle somewhere they don't test emissions?

It is more of an issue with getting it into the country than registering it. It's an EPA standard, not necessarily a state one.

Saw a few amarok's in Jamaica, and Hilux. It was cool to see something different. However, I like the American Tacoma better.

Now if the global ranger was in the us, it would ake me think a bit more.

I think ford should consider bringing it here or bringing back the mini truck. I can t believe there is no demand for a smaller pickup

It won't do anything except stop an import tax. So it most likely would make the 4Runner cheaper.

It's much more likely that we see trucks like this:

If the chicken tax is repealed. Look at GM and Toyota. They target the small midsized trucks at young weekend warriors who need to load up there bikes, camping gear, surf boards, etc onto something that's a little more rugged than a CUV. Little UTE type vehicles like this could absolutely take a huge chuck of the Tacoma's market away, as sad as theses FWD monsters are.

Small car mileage with a box, locking front differential, and slightly higher ride than a car. Perfect for a young guy and his hump buddy to run away into the wilderness.

If those trucks come over here then the tacoma will officially be going the way of the 4Runner.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
if his hump buddy is another young guy..

They sell both in Mexico, which to me didn't make sense.. The Hilux sells for substantially less money than a Tacoma in Mexico. I don't quite understand the business case for selling both in the same market.
