Yeah, this whole concept kinda died when the 2012's went to having this display in the mirror.

I don't believe the sensor is there on the earlier trucks, like your '06. My '10 did have the sensor (...I believe the heat & A/C uses it too in the '09-'11 trucks).

Just be sure that the gauge you're installing came from an earlier truck too. The '09-'11 ones are different.

Yeah, my '14 has the sensor, but plain Jane mirror. I wouldn't want the readout on the mirror anyway, but it would be nice to have it on the overhead console. If there's a prior model year console/display that's compatible, I would be very interested.

Just found this old thread and Man! I would give up one of my sun glass holders for a compass/temp guage in my '14 in a heart beat.:D

For you guys that have '14s did you find any prior years consoles that would work? Any aftermarket gauges that would fit?

I have a 2009 Tacoma 4 cyl. access cab I purchased several months ago. I can't get the Temperature/Compass Gauge to work that I purchased. The truck never had one. I purchased a overhead console off e-bay and purchased the gauge for 09 Tacoma direct from Toyota dealership. The probe is already in place in front of the radiator. The plug was already above the old console and I just plugged it in. The gauge lights up but only with red dashes and reads north all the time. What can I do to make this work?
    Thanks!

Was that readout already there and you just scratched off to reveal it or did you add something back there? I too would love to have the temp / direction readout in my '14..

I added a digital thermometer and clock that I ordered off eBay, in behind the plastic where it says Tacoma the old clock window from previous years is still there so I just scratched the glue of then as carefully as I could I soaked a tiny rag with varsol and scrubbed away

It was a .28" led 3in one display, but the temp probe was to short so I ordered a different one with a 10ft probe and just spliced it in ;).
If I could find the older hazard switch and clock display I could use that and it would look much cleaner

I ordered it off eBay and installed it , in behind where it says Tacoma is the old housing window for the clock from previous models, there is some sticky glue like substance that I scrapped off carefully then took a small rag and some varsol and slowly scrubbed away at the paint in that opening
Till it was clear, then just needed a piece of tint for the display

Any link to that display from eBay?

Does anyone know the exact measurement on the clock display? I'm planning on doing the same thing @ICEDOGG did but with the clock display since I can't get the clock to work on my 15.

The one I did has buttons that I drilled holes for underneath so you can't see them and I can cycle through a clock the temp and I think the third is a timer. And the one I got fits pretty close to perfect in the space

So any .28" LED display is perfect for it then?

I'm also looking into getting the ones with the 3in1 functions.

Yeah mine is the 3 in one so any .28 with 4 panels (4 individual led numbers like a clock) will fit pretty good it almost fit perfect in mine, I wish I had the old clock display hazard switch panel in mine then it would look nicer

    Awesome, thanks.

How'd you go about wiring it up?

    Thanks again for the reply.

I tapped it into the 12v accessory port it was a bit of a pain in the but, but it works and only comes on with the key, and the led panned has a backup battery for the clock so it's perfect

Got the 3in1 .28" white LED gauge today. This thing came from China, so took about 8 days from the day I ordered it. Packaged up pretty well. As for durability, time will tell. Looks like I'm going to have to extend the wires to get the outside temp.

Anyone know where I could tap into to get the volt reading?

It was a pain but I hooked mine up to the 12v accessory plug wires , I don't remember what one I ordered but I ordered another 3 wire led temp display for like 10 bucks that had the 3m cable and once again just spliced it in to the short one, you could re solder it but I'm not great at soldering so I went with the splicing ;)
