    Hi all,
I am going to buy a 2016 DCLB TRD OR. I heard there will be limited stock on the lot. Anyway, I am wondering if I am expecting to pay MSRP price? I think this truck will be selling like hotcakes.

Sorry, I've never bought a brand new toyota tacoma before. I bought new toyota highlander and Avalon and paid invoice prices :)

Any advise regarding negotiation will be greatly appreciated.

Supply and demand will dictate the OTD price. Initially, supply will be tight, so I expect dealers will not be discounting much off MSRP until there are unsold trucks on the lot.

I agree. Until there are the 2016's sitting on the lot, dealerships will not discount much at all. Pretty much what is happening at Chevy and GMC with the Colorado/Canyon. Especially with the Z71 package.

That is the main reason I will wait until there are. Price discounts then should be about what one gets with the 2015's.

Use truecar.com before you go in. It will give you the recent sale prices from various dealerships in your area. It will also give you a truecar guaranteed price from participating dealerships which is usually a fair price. I wouldn't expect too much off of MSRP, and they rarely run specials on the Tacoma. Have $40K+ ready when you go for the model you specified. No need to discount them when they sell like hot cakes.:bananadead:

It's not like the ford f-150 where the day they put a new model out for sale it comes with 4500 bucks in rebates. Everybody likes to feel like they got a good deal.

You're only getting a good deal when buying a Tacoma at msrp because of reliability, capability, and the best resale value of any other car period (retains 60% of its value after 5 years.)

i read somewhere on here that tacomas depreciate about $1,000 a year. Does this sound about right?

No that does not sound right to me. It's hard to figure out exact depreciation per year. They have calculators that will give you an estimate, but I think they're somewhat inaccurate. The tacoma will (easily) be worth 60% (actual figures) of msrp after 5 years. So if your trd off road costs 35,000 msrp when new and 5 years 60,000 miles later (avg) it would be worth (35k x .6) = $21,000. later in the life of the vehicle being that it's a Tacoma the years/miles don't matter quite as much because of the reliability ratings, so It will depreciate slower over time than other vehicles. Take a look at used tacomas and you'll see 5+ year 100,000 mile tacomas still selling for $20k. If you buy a ford focus for 18,000 it's resididual value is 31% instead of 60%, so it will be worth around 6k after 5 years 60k miles. These are actual residual values based on other sites. I think they're actually low on most accounts. Meaning I think the Tacoma in specific models like trd's are worth all of the 60% and maybe more in some case. The vehicles with the best residual values over time are 1.tacoma 2.jeep wrangler 3,4, 4runner, tundra.

Expect to pay MSRP, trucar isnt going to have data on the 2016, there are plenty of people lining up for orders/allocations, limited initial supply, your gonna pay msrp or a very small amount off and trucar will reflect that as well later.

great. And the fact that i fall well below the avr amount of yearly miles helps even more.

I know it's a Tacoma, but I still would not buy the first year of a total redesign.

That's exactly why it's so hard to calculate exact depreciation. If you sell your 5 year old taco with 30k in immaculate condition, it's going to pull a pretty penny more that the one that spent 5 years offroading with 100k on it.

@ fjcruiser: You're absolutely right, all true 4x4 Toyotas have excellent resale value. The best!

@true car: You're right too. If you're looking to be the first in line for the handful of 2016's that are available, not only will true car not have any data, but you also will likely be paying msrp or more o_O! Price gouging is a real thing in some places.

I'm planning on buying a 2016 as well, but not until next spring/summer when they're are not such a hot commodity and have more to chose from.:kona: (black DCSBORMT)

x2 on this lol. I've waited a long time for the new taco to come out so I'm still going to buy one, but yeah that front end is a little wtf.. I like the rest of the truck enough to let it slide. I have to see it in person with different colors, but I'm thinking black at this point to hide a little bit of the front end ugly.

Seems to me, they just tweaked what was wrong with the previous gen, as they always do. A good thing IMO, it will be a good little truck like it always has been. Would of been nice if they slipped a diesel in thar, but oh well...the world will keep on spinning.

The front end...some days I don't like it, other days I do.

I dunno, for some reason it looks good here to me.

I just don't like the black accent grille trim being A all black and B indented so much. But it's not terrible, just not ideal (what do we feed it? lol). I'll still buy one, just may have to consider a darker color or black for me personally to hide a little bit of the ugly. I really like the side and rear profiles though. looking at it directly head on it looks ok, but the 3/4 front angle is a little eeesh. The headlights from the side are a little to narrow/small for the front end. I think the chrome trim around the fog lights on the limited and the white/clear taillights are really unattractive as well. It looks like from the picture above the chrome grille is kinda gray, which would be cool, but it's not, it's all shiny chrome on a trd. But again not terrible, still nice trucks. I think I'm going to have to pull off that wind guard below the bumper as well.. not a fan of that thing even though better mpg's.

If you use truecar, don't be afraid to try multiple area codes. Not many people realize that it's the dealers that set the price on truecar, and searching for any given zip code will only search for dealers within 100 miles (roughly).

Pull the zip code for all of the major metropolitan areas within a 3 to 4 hour drive from your location, search for them all though the truecar website. A short drive is nothing if you're saving $1500-$2000 dollars, and I guarantee that there will be some dealers in the US who are willing to lop that off MSRP for a quick sale.

Case in point - take the recently released 2015 Subaru WRX. It's a vehicle with demand much like the Taco, and sky high residuals too. Very rarely do you find dealers who are willing to budge off of MSRP....but Heuberger Motors in Colorado Springs was selling them for $1000 under invoice (not MSRP) immediately - no gimmics, no tricks - all you had to do was contact their internet sales team. It turns out that Heuberger is the largest Subaru dealer in the US, and they make most of their money back in sales bonuses from Subaru (the dealers who move the most volume get the biggest bonuses).

Research, look around, and try to find high volume dealers - that's where you will likely have the most luck.

Very true, I think in Canada it works this way as well. For some vehicles here that are in demand everyone thinks you can't get a deal, then you go to the right dealer, who doesn't buy into the hype and just wants to move it fast so they will discount it.

If your looking to get one soon you will pay a premium. Like others said, once supply starts to meet demand then you may get something. You ay get a bit off after the initial allocations are filled. I believe eventually you will have a better chance than previous generations due to adding a third shift and expansion.

That's not in line with history at all. First off, a DCLB TRD Sport didn't cost 35K 5 years ago. Secondly, at 5 years and 60,000 miles, the TRADE IN value is more than 22K. The private party value is closer to 26K. Soooo, 32K to 26K. That's a helluva lot closer to 1K per year than your estimate. Is 1K optimistic? Yeah, I wouldn't bet on getting that, but $1500 is reasonable for a Tacoma. I've seen a dozen sell for that.
