Hello people! I'm really excited to get my new to me 05 Prerunner AC 4cyl 5spd up to par, but I have questions where I'm really getting stumped. Maybe this will also help others as the info seems scattered or elusive (yes, I've been reading til my eyes hurt) but here it goes...

I'm currently riding on General Grabbers AW on 3 of the tires and some other brand for the 4th. With that I'm going by the specs of the majority which are

    245/75r16

    30.5" diam

    33 lbs

    Load index SL

    Max load 2271 lbs

I'm looking for street tires with tread good for occasional downpours (Florida) as this will be my daily driver to work and around town errands. I have a 5x8 utility trailer that I use on occasion to haul sheets of wood or something like an appliance from Home Depot, but nothing heavy. I have no plans to lift this truck whatsoever. It already sits high enough as it is. Acceleration is more than adequate, but tires look sort of puny. Also experiencing the speedo inaccuracy. I'd like a touch more of "meat" down there if feasible, however, aftermarket wheels will be added. I have stock steels with chrome hubcaps (yuck!).

So with all of that info, I have reached a conundrum of trying to find a good street tire that increases diameter but stays close to 31" max. Many are 31.6" and up which added to aftermarket wheels and the usual added backspace of 16x8 seems like it will cause issues for a non lifted truck. Added to that is weight. I'm currently looking for wheels that will be light as possible while appeasing my tastes & cheap wallet, but how much of a hit is realistic when looking at tire weight? Some appear to remain well under 40 lbs per tire while others easily tip over that. So it appears that a street 31" max and under 40lb tire is hard to find or nonexistent. I've even compared 265/70-16 & 265/75-16 sets to find that happy medium. What do you sacrifice at this point? Is sticking towards a SL rated tire appropriate? I don't want to turn this truck into a gas sucker or rough offroad ride.

That would be a stock tire size, you should be able to go to 265/75R16 on stock rims with no rubbing. One of the most recommended tires is the Michelin LTX MS/2 for ride and durability.

31" is considered stock diameter? I've been comparing to what's on there now which is 30.5". Still, there's a couple of 265/75-16 tires that peak my interest except that the lightest one is 31.6" or so in diameter. The other that is is 31" is over 40-ish lbs. Keep in mind these will be going on aftermarket 16x8 0 offset 4.5 backspace wheels.

I've been looking at this video for some time. I like the look of this truck's wheel & tire stance.

Okay.... time to wrap this thread up as I've found what I'm going to at least try first. Without a lift and going for aftermarket 16x8 wheels, looks like the best bet is 265/70r16. That should give the slightly beefier look without having the extra weight and MPG issues. Sources for the info with pics are on these pages, perhaps a few more I've read....
