I don't necessary 'hate' the appearance of the 2016..but I do like the looks of the 2nd gen better. My main reasoning for getting a 2015 was I didn't want to a wait until 2017ish for all the bugs to be worked out.

I bought my 2015 about 3 months ago. The 2016 had nothing to do with my decision.

Same here bought my 2015 in March the forth coming 2016 Gen 3 didn't have any bearing on my purchase. I wanted a Tacoma and the 2015 is what's for sale new. Had I been in the market when the 2016 was available I'd have bought one. Most likely I'll keep this truck for awhile that is simply because I tend to keep a vehicle for several years.

Appearance wasn't the determining factor. I needed a new truck and it was going to be a Tacoma. With significant change in a product line comes risk of new issues, and the change also would mean lack of aftermarket support for a couple years or more. So, I bought now rather than wait.

Definitely. My '05 DCSB has 172,00miles and going fine. Could easily have waited for the '16. Didn't hate it, but didn't really care for the styling and there really didn't seem to be much upgrade in mechanicals. Bought my '15 and handed the '05 down to my son.

I actually like the look of the new 3rd gens. I just wanted something battle tested. and like he ^ said a new generation means new problems and I wanted something all the kinks have been worked out of.

Partly impatience on my part but I also felt the need to have something tried and true. Although the 4 cylinder 2.7 remains largely unchanged, it was a matter of having something that's had the bugs worked out of it.

My 2010 was going to need to bereplaced by early 2016 and I was willing to be a first year buyer and I like the looks and tech features of the 2016.
Deal breaker for me was the change in the bed length which will make the shell I wanted not available for the 3rd. gen. for a year or more.
Went with a 2015 and the SnugTop Hi-liner Sport I wanted and will wait until they make one for the 3rd. gen. and trade then.

Partly impatience on my part and didn't want to wait for '16 to come out & no deals on them.
I also didn't know if or when they would have TRD PRO in a '16.

2017 the second gens came out in 2005, here it is 2015 and they still haven't worked the bugs out.

    My reasons:
3rd gen would likely cost a bit more
The 15 was a proven platform with 10 years of development on it's side
Mods mods and more mods readily available
I love the look of the second gen

The 2016 hideousness actually played a decent part in my purchase timing. That is a face only a mother could love.

Bought my 2015 because I liked how it looked - have wanted one a long time. I was impatient about it. There's a much bigger aftermarket supply for the 2005-2015 style and everyone knows what the bugs are already. I also projected the 2016 will be more expensive (since the Colorado is more expensive why would Toyota not bump the price?)

I like that the 2016 has a better interior, better MPG's, more HP, more tech inside, etc. But it wasn't out in February 2015, nobody knew all the details, and I assume it would cost more.

I went back and forth on this at the dealership - I really wanted the '16 limited because I was getting rid of my Rav4 Limited for the Tacoma and I wanted to keep as many of the creature features I could (leather, push start, heated seats, moon roof and dual climate controls). The reason I went with the '15 is because:

    1) i'm inpatient and didn't want to wait
    2) I didn't want to get the new truck with the potential problems of new stuff since it was a new truck
    3) I was pretty sure the '16 limited was going to be pricey. Later rumors confirmed that it would be in the high 30's almost 40k so I am glad I didn't wait.

To me the '16 TRD Sport isn't any better than the '15 Sport so I decided to make the purchase and I love my taco so far. There are things on the '16 I like and there are things I don't like.

I purchased my 2015 DCSB TRD OR 4X4 in March because I new the engine was proven. i wanted to make sure I would not run into issues with the new engine. I wanted the new Taco to be out a couple years before I purchased to ensure the Atkinson engine in the 2016 Tacoma's are good to go.
I go out in the desert and mountains in California and the gen 2 I know I can trust to get me there and back. "I handed off my 2007 FJ Cruiser to my son".
