Few updates...waiting for a set of rear springs since my Alcans didn't work out. All-Pro said 6 weeks.

Started messing with the steering trying to squeeze the reservoir in the engine bay and the new windshield washer fluid bottle.

Interesting journey there going from 2WD to IFS to SAS.

I'm still wondering...isn't that axle too narrow for that truck - especially with that tall of a tire? How are those tires going to clear out at full lock? You'll probably have no choice but to run wheel spacers up front...which brings all sorts of interesting issues.

 

The axle is a bit short... this front axle build is more of a creative fun thing to-do. If it ends up not lasting a Diamond will fix it.

In factory form the axle is too narrow @ 56" compared to the rear @60". There is a common mod of running 86-95' IFS hubs instead of the factory SA hubs 79-85', this mod helps widen the track width of the axle by roughly 1.5" per side. Bringing the axle to 59". By using these IFS hubs it also allows to run 231mm Tundra brakes (currently on the truck now) which avoids dealing with a new brake setup that comes with swapping to a solid axle. Using FROR brackets that only work with IFS hubs, an additional ~3/8" per side (rotor thickness) is gained as well. This now brings the axle total to 56"(stock width) + 1.5" *2 (IFS hubs) + 3/8 *2 (rotor thickness) = 59.75" width. 60" (rear) - 59.75" front = 1/4" difference, then divide that by 2 (for each side) = 1/8" difference from rear.

1.25" wheel spacers are laying around for all 4 wheels if I choose to put them on but currently out of want rather than need. Mods are being done to the steering and axle to address issues if wheel spacers are to be put on.

Not a lot of 1Gen SAS tacomas with that axle, so I was curious about how you were approaching the width issue.

 

Math is good, just hope it works out. Nope not alot at all so we'll see. Few updates coming soon.

 

You originally posted that you were going to take a leaf out of the front spring packs. Did you do that yet, if so which one? Im doing the same set up as you in about a month and was just curious.

Spot welded reinforcement plate underneath to support the PSC reservoir.

Nice to see some progress here man!

 

Finally got the PSC reservoir to sit nice and tight without any interference. And the Nalgene bottle is the new washer fluid bottle, complete with a light blue (typical color) lid.








Steering shaft almost finished, had to bend a few brake lines for it to clear. Also will be changing how the steering joints mount to the steering shaft.

With everything else getting a new improvement......went ahead and got some new lights.

Far left are the old Hella 700ff with the 55watt HID retrofit.

The new led lights out perform them....finally a led that can compete.

The smaller leds will be a secondary aid.






And then these lower rear shock mounts just came in. Can't wait to weld these on.

 

Finally.....All-Pro springs will be here Tuesday.
