So im wiring my new system up. My double din head unit has only two channel output, though also 4 channel high level output with a wiring adapter. I am wiring four 6.5's into a Alpine MRP-F300 4 channel amp. The amp has both RCA 4 channel as well as high level inputs.

Here is the initial plan: two RCA cables out of the Alpine amp, using RCA 2 to 1 Y-adapters into the head unit.

Here is another option, that would give true 4 channel control: High level output from headunit into this powered and grounded adapter.

Pros and cons of using the adapter to get 4 channel to the amp? Any better then using Y cables to convert to 2 channel?

You stated your ddin hu has only two channel output which I took for 2 channel rca as you mentioned 4 channel high level output though I brain farted on the part about 4 channel out with a wiring adapter. Does your ddin hu not have any rca outputs?

With the high level to adapter you get more control over the front, rear, left, right balance opposed to just having a left right balance with the rcas 2-1 plug. Also that eq is garbage.I had it made everything sound like am radio..if your lookin at eqs should look into audio control.

Agreed on audiocontrol eq's. The clarions biggest fault imo/ime is the inability to control the maximum voltage output compared to the audiocontrol matrix in terms of a line driver. Eq wise for the price it gets the job done well though, and like I said, my preference is the audiocontrol option. In the end the equipment has to play nice with each other. Garbage in garbage out is the simplest explanation in mobile audio but quality is subjective and not necessarily brand specific.

Though im not necessarily interested in a standalone EQ, unless your saying that its required to create a good balanced signal when going from line to RCA output.

Im just wondering if there is loss of quality or output in using 2 to 1 Y cables. Anything gained with using high level to RCA?

When using the rca y cables the voltage gets split between the two paths going out. You would need some kind of voltage/line driver in the path to recover the loss but it may be too late by then depending on the situation. If you don't have rca output from your hu at all you have to use a line out converter.

I have two channel RCA and line output front he head unit. I want the best connection possible to my amp (without going nuts with parts). Would an inline signal booster be advisable? I have the entire interior stripped out and the dash all apart, so i would like to do it now rather than later.

Its unfortunate, all the head units i would want seem to have only two channel RCA output.

With a two channel rca output I would advise you to use the audiocontrol matrix6. This is a straight forward line driver...nothing else. It does have the ability to split your 2 channel rca to 4 or 6 channels without the need for rca y cables. It also allows for voltage adjustment. I personally use this item when driving multiple amplifiers (excess of 6 total) because using a y cable OUT of the matrix is better than using a y cable OUT of your headunit.
