sounds like either the bendix isn't throwing out, or your flywheel is missing teeth, leading to a dead spot. But it's weird that its dependent on that switch.

The little push button on your clutch pedal is just a 12 volt power on off connection. It works the same as a brake light switch, it is wired in line with the power supply. So clutch pedal in, full 12 volts should be happening, but since that is not happening, you are likely getting less than 12 volts and not enough to turn the starter. So either the wiring to and from the push button has a break or the push button switch needs to be replaced.
I haven't had this apart on my Tacoma, can you disconnect the wire into the push button and the wire out of the push button? If yes, join them together to bypass the push button switch. If your starter now works fine, its the push button switch. If not, their is a weak wire somewhere.

    What Don said.

Mine was intermittent once upon a time. I simply reached under the dash, located the switch, and bent the bracket so that the pedal arm would make contact sooner. I haven't had a problem since. Kind of like bending the float arm on a toilet that runs all the time.

Update I replaced the clutch safty switch. The button in the clutch petal. Did not fix problem. Replaced starter relay/ did not fix problem. Tested and cleaned all battery connections/ did not fix. Next on list is finding wire connections from ignition to starter.

Did you try what I said? Connect the 2 wires together that are attached to the button switch that is activated by putting the clutch pedal down. Then report result.
Do this with the truck in neutral and parking brake on.

What I should add is, it could still be a weak connection at the clutch pedal switch, a bad wiring connection in that area. It may not be sending full voltage through from that area to the starter.

In the video above, did you have the wires at the clutch pedal connected when you first tried the starter? Without the pedal in, the starter should not even try to engage. It sounds like the starter is spinning but not engaging until you push the clutch cancel button.

I would say you do not have a problem with the flywheel or the starter, they work fine when you push the clutch cancel button on the dash. Your ignition switch also works fine, it has to be a wiring issue.

The clutch cancel button works like the clutch pedal switch, except when pressed, it bypasses the wiring to the clutch pedal switch. It is electronic in that it only activates for one starting cycle, then disconnects. It would have its own path from the key switch to the starter.

With a volt meter, check the voltage when the starter is engaged at all wiring points you can find, both with the clutch cancel button used and without. Follow the wiring diagram and try to check everything, you hopefully should find where there is a weak link in the chain.

First check voltage at the starter with it engaged and see if you get a different voltage with and without the clutch cancel button used.

Too much crap on "new" cars, my 62 is much simpler. And they keep adding more gizmos, which are great when they work, but very expensive and difficult to fix.
