Ipod2car PXDP owners w/ new 80gig

Hey Gang,

For those with the Ipod2car units - what version do you have? On the unit box, it'll have a number version on it.

When did you buy it?
What does it look like?

For those with the newer 80gig Classics - how's the click wheel work for ya?

I have a 3 year old PXDP (1.4.1 I think) and my 80gig click wheel is sporadicallyl POOR. I've read that this is due to the PXDP itself.... and that Peripheral has fixed this problem with the newer 1.5.1 (I think) boxes they're selling currently. I'll know more tomorrow. I think my husband has a 1.5.1 in the vette and I'll have to see how well my click wheel works on that. His box is more of a clear plastic while mine is all white.

I haven't contacted peripheral yet - wondering how or if I can upgrade to the newer unit. If I had to guess, they probably won't take upgrades but only sell ya new stuff.

This is definately a problem with the PXDP. I called Peripheral Electronics and they verified a 'hardware' change to adapt for the newer ipods. The click wheel works fine when the unit is unplugged.

In order to fix the problem, you have to purchase a new unit. Peripheral does not offer exchanges or upgrades. If you purchased an older version PXDP less than a year ago, they might accomodate you somehow - as the tech guy asked me how old mine was. Since it's 2-3 years old - I didn't ask what they'd do.

I told the guy - "There are many different units available, WHY would I buy the PXDP again if the hardware is gonna change every couple years?"
All he could say was.... "If Apple didn't change the ipods, then we wouldn't have to upgrade the hardware."

I haven't heard any problems like this with the other systems.... ??

So - for now, I'm not gonna buy another one. Screw that. When I need to pick a playlist or music (which is rare), I'll simply unplug the unit, scroll & pick my playlist, and then plug it back in again. Easy enough for me.
