New tires today, same metric size of 285/75 R16 but with Toyo MT's
    Truck mileage is at 234,259.

    Somewhat taller.

    Out with the old.

    Siping the new.

And an alignment check, needed some toe tweakage but otherwise was fine.

I've read through this thread probably four times because your truck is beautiful. Good job man, you've inspired this lazy college student to finally start throwing more money at my truck.

Took the tires for a drive last night.:burnrubber:
I really liked the old Iroc's, they were quiet when new and handled excellent off road. Did pretty good for a mud tire on the streets, balanced well, rode fairly soft aside from the knobby growl, They were cheap af and wore quick af, yada, yada, yada...

So this is my first time with an E rated mud tire. It is stiffer. I'm running the same PSI of 30 pounds in all four.
But man, they are REALLY quiet, and ride very smooth. Too soon to say if they will get noisy after the new wears off, but reports from the tire guys say they should stay quiet for the life of the tire. We'll see.

They are heavier, I noticed some lag in my trip up my favorite canyon, but still pulled the grade in 4th with lots of pedal left.

I can feel smaller road irregularities that I couldn't feel before, or maybe just didn't notice over the Swamper drone, hard to say really. To be honest, not uncomfortable, just feels like a truck as opposed to a car.

I might drop PSI to 28, play around with it to see what happens. So far though looks like the tread is getting full contact on the ground.

Can't tell any difference in handling on curves, feels the same.

Definitely a little taller, I get more frame rub now at full steering lock. But prolly won't do anything about it.

Pulled the Warn 9K off my old Scout and decided to clean, re-grease the gears and re-paint the drum. It's going on the Tacoma. The Smittybilt has performed as advertised but the Warn is better in every aspect. There may be a Smittybilt for sale real cheap here soon.

Cleaned the planetary gears today between jobs.

And proceeded to grease everything with wheel bearing grease. After getting it back together, I realized that wasn't going to work as the grease is too stiff for free wheeling the drum.

So I cleaned everything again and found the right grease. Warn recommends Aeroshell 17, which is discontinued, so the substitute is Aeroshell 33MS, which is hard to come by and ridiculous expensive. It's also recommended for the slide assembly on your average AR15 and helicopters, but that's for another thread.
I found Valvoline full synthetic molybdenum EP was close enough. It needs to be EP (extreme pressure) , heat range is not critical, and the moly stuff is kind of important as it makes for a lower viscosity mix.

The gasket is torn but all the pieces were still there. I just lightly greased the gasket and it should keep dust and moisture out just fine.
Now to put it on the truck.

So this part pissed me off. I knew it would be close but thought it would make it with a little grinding for clearance. Not so.
The Warn has a longer motor housing plus the heat sink. I missed the holes by 3/4". fuck.
Even with the heat sink off, it's the actual bearing housing that hits.
I though about raising it up, and ended up with a little over an inch of rise in order to have the holes line up. No good.
Mounting it offset is an option but not a very aesthetically pleasing one.

I think I might "tub" the bumper where the motor housing sits. But not today.

I'd notch it ("tub"). Offset doesn't really work unless you modify the fairlead mount.

Truck's looking good these days Brett!

Why does the spool look so rough on the Warn?
It's not rust pitted is it?
Did you paint it with texture?

Nice work on cleaning it up and regreasing it

I agree, was kidding about the offset, would totally set off my ocd. :) Centered on the existing mounting holes also keeps the Toyota emblem centered above the winch too, and that really is the most important thing. :D
    And thanks!

rusty as hell. That winch has been on the front of that Scout for almost 20 years. Uncovered, outside. The synthetic line was stuck to it, lol. I did knock off the big chunks, then painted it with Rustoleum. That drum pipe is close to 1/4" wall so not too worried about it. Has better line grip now.

However the internals, gears and solenoid pack were rust and dust free, no signs of ever taking on moisture. I really didn't need to clean it up either, just thought why not since I was in there.

Brett, I finally got my AOR bumper on so if the smittybilt goes up for sale you might have a buyer just down the street (Even though Bob at 4x4 off road, who everyone with a truck or jeep in this town seems to know, said I was only allowed to put a Warn on my truck).

I will keep you in mind, lol. Bob's a great guy, as most guys named Bob usually are.
Have you run across the Mountaineers yet?
