asked this in the 1st gen. section with no response, perhaps because I didn't ask here... any way I need help answering this question.

I have a '96 Tacoma 4x4 w/auto tranny. I want to flat tow it behind a motorhome and get different opinions on whether I can safely do this depending on who I ask. Can't I simply shift my transfer case into neutral and tow this truck with no damage to my drivetrain/transmission? Hoping someone can put my mind at ease about this, finally....Thanks!!

Wow, no one can help me with this?, I am surprised..... By my logic if the transfer case is in neutral and the front hubs are unlocked than no damage should occur yet toyota manual indicates I should not tow this way, surely one of ya'll should know if these gen. 1's can be towed in this fashion... please help me settle this issue!!

I can't help because I don't know anything about it, but I have heard that it is not good to tow like that for long distances. Yet, I see many motorhomes towing vehicles. Hopefully someone can chime in for you OP.
I have heard that the driveshaft needs to be disconnected.

My dad's truck has a driveline disconnect. Seems to work pretty slick. Just don't unhook and forget to set the parking brake! ;)
