Sure ain't no OZ work (beautiful staircase btw!)
But I got my ceiling fan painted and installed. Got it for $70 at Lowes on the sale rack. It was all chrome, horrible.
Goes well with my white interior now.

Sort of home improvement. More like got shit out of my garage finally improvement.

Built the platform day before yesterday. Then put the shed up yesterday.

Lifetime brand shed I got from Costco. Originally $799. Bought the last one on display for half price.

It's a pretty nice little shed. 8'x6.5' . Just enough for me. Curious to see how it holds up over time. And it's in a part of my back yard that was really unused space.

Thanks bud. That was when I started yesterday, so I've made some progress since then.

Now all the posts and beams are finished, today depending on the weather I'll either start working on the floor joists (the ones in the picture are just sitting there for visualization. Or I might go to depot and get some wire lathe and stucco cement and try to patch the area where the old stairs were. I was going to just leave it as is and put a planter in front of it where it's visible above the decking, but now I'm not sure.

    Project Next

The better half requested a wooden countertop for the laundry room and there will be a matching deep corner window sill that goes above the countertop .

Project parameters were to make it look cool but use up material I already have and she didn't want VG Fir because our house is pretty full of that already , so I decided to use some yellow cedar planks that I bought about 15 years ago to make some exterior benches and it just never happened , however they have been sticker stacked and air drying this whole time which is good , unfortunately some of the planks were twisted pretty severely which is bad .

Most of the planks are 10" - 12" wide and 2" thick . I decided that 4 5/8" wide laminations would work best for my top , 6 of them would make up the width I needed for the counter top and 3 would work for the deep window sill , it would allow me to get 2 out of each plank and would essentially half the twist issues I was going to be dealing with .

I started with selecting the planks I was going to use .

I then ripped them all to a common dimension of about 4 13/16 wide

To deal with the still fairly substantial twists in a few of the pieces I rigged up a 16' fir 2x12 in my thickness planer to act as an extended bed , and used another 6" wide piece of fir as a sled to run the twisted yellow cedar pieces through the planer on . I basically just shimmed the twisted pieces off of the sled by 1/2 of the twist on each end and then fixed the yellow cedar piece to the sled with screws from below that wouldn't be close enough to the surface to get hit by the planer knives .

Running the cedar on the sled through the thickness planer then planed away the twist untill I was left with a flat side , essentially what you would do with a jointer . After all the boards had a flat side I was able to get rid of the sled and run them through with the flat side against the table and plane them to thickness

Pretty good material from some ratty looking planks

Narrowly avoided having to rebuild my house last night. Wildfire spread through the neighborhood faster than anyone could have predicted. I keep huge fire clearances so I wasn't worried about my place, but the flames did come within 1/4 mile and 4 houses nearby got torched.

Since my house didn't burn down, I can focus on finishing my compressor shed. I was originally thinking regular T-111, but while at Lowe's I saw this product that is $10 per panel cheaper than the rough cut plywood style. Anyone have experience? Pros, cons?
