Replaced Toyota supplied Denso standard plugs with Denso Iridium Power plugs, IKH20 on my 2010 Tacoma DC 4x4 V6 at 92k miles. Stock gap at 0.043"-0.044”. Torqued to 15lb-ft. per Denso’s site no anti-seize used. Old plugs measured 0.053” to 0.055”. The old plugs closest to the firewall had oily threads. Idle in P or N sounds smoother at 800-1k rpm. Shifting into other gears while stationary, R and D drops to 600-700rpm still sounds good. During my initial drives, rpms did drop to 600-700rpms when stopped. Sounds a tad quieter. Overall acceleration improved, but just enough to notice. No WOW factor. MPG yet to be determined. Pings have diminished dramatically even after my 50 mile commute in 105 degree weather with lots of stop and go. I can usually get pings going when accelerating from 40mph to 50mph with rpms starting at 1500 and AC on. Note: I run 91 octane. Now, no pings.

When I first bought the truck, it was very down shift happy under light-moderate acceleration. When the pings started happening after 30k miles, down shifting only happened during hard acceleration. With new plugs, it is more like its new self again. Interestingly, I didn’t get that new feeling after plugs were replaced at 60k by the dealership, using Denso standard plugs.

Improved performance and reduced pings with new iridium plugs. Would I have seen the same improvements with standard plugs? More than likely Yes, but maybe not to the same degree. Might try 87 octane again.

I put either Chevron or Costo 91 octane gas. Installed a TRD or K&N drop in filter(I rotate between the two) and run Mobile 1 oil with Mobile 1 filter and replace every 10k mi. Otherwise, nothing special. Truck has 91k mi.

I swapped to Iridiums too, and my pinging completely disappeared for the last 60k miles. I only run 87 octane as well.

Toyota needs to come out with a recall or TSB for this in 2005 - 2011 models
