    so there has been a series of attempted breakins in my nieghborhood in the last month. The nieghborhood started a Facebook nieghborhood watch and the stuff being posted isnt making me feel better. I already padlocked my gates, put up beware of dog signs, added a fake security camera, and put up a fake security sign when we moved in but now I think I actully need a security system or at least a real camera. Anyone have any recomendations on a cheap security system with a camera or a cheap and easy to setup motion surveillance camera.

    If you're a comcast customer they have some pretty good deals on adding their security systems to your existing services which can include cameras. If you're just looking for a camera system I have used a couple different models from Night Owl either 4 or 8 camera systems that record to a DVR that are very easy to setup and use. Depending on the features & number of cameras they start around $200 and go up from there.

    @Mademan925 check out: http://www.amazon.com/Amcrest-960H-...id=1437492707&sr=8-3&keywords=security+system

    My friend just bought one for his house and it works great. Comcast will run you $50/month for 2-4 cameras. It's cheaper in the long run to just buy this. Check out some of the reviews. Theres a dude that has a video and its a pretty solid review.

    Not worried about fancy criminals. Worried about the random break in criminals.

    We don't live in a break-in area so much, but we had an electrician come out and mount super bright perimeter lights on motion sensors on every side of the house but the front (which is illuminated at the garage with 2 carriage lights on light sensors to come on at dark, the porch light is always on and their is a flag pole in the yard that is illuminated at night as well. This only helps deter thieves at night, of course, but something to consider.

    @RearViewMirror has cams on his home, and even the cam mounted on his porch didn't deter a thief from stealing something off of his front porch, IIRC it was a wreath mounted on his door, and she (the thief) stood on the porch for several minutes before finally working up the nerve to remove it and leave. All in plain view of the cam, and the cam was visible to her as well.

    I have a good friend who owns a video surveillance company and looked into cams myself, but for good quality setup (not the Costco cams) it got pricey quick, and that was buying things at cost.

    Just get a 4 camera security system. Worth every penny and they aren't too expensive. I got a two camera wireless system from Bestbuy but since got a different one with a hard drive. I can log in on my phone and watch it from anywhere.

    Haha. They will be outside cams. I wear my birthday suit around the house to often for inside cameras.
