My 2015 with less than 5000 miles has a spot on the hood about the size of a nickel that is missing the clear coat completely. There nothing indicating any kind of physical removal of the clear coat... Is this something that anyone else is seeing? I didn't notice it until I finally got around to washing and waxing it for the first time.

Would like to see a pic too.

I would take it to the dealer asap, not sure what they will do, but better to get it there sooner rather then later.

Yeah pics would help us to help you.
So does your truck have the clear paint protection film? Is it within that area? Reason I ask is that film can penetrated if high-pressure water gets too close; this leaves you with a hole in the film.
    Or I'm way overthinking it.

Was it the size of bird poop that you left on the truck for a while and didn't remove right away? It wouldn't surprise me bird poop left for days on a hot day that the acid from the poop doesn't damage paint.

I wouldn't expect the acid to burn all the way through the clear coat. It usually leaves splotches or sections whenever bird feces has been on too long.

Taco paint seems a bit more tough than the soft BRZ paint... but it depends on amount of bird poop...but have you seen hard water stain from sprinklers do to a vehicle on a hot summer day? It'll have to be paint corrected after that... polish some layers of clear to remove the etching. I imagine bird poop the same way. I don't park under trees and I try to spot for poop on my way from parking in the garage to the door...if I see something I'll flick it off. That's why carnuba wax is good...it's a way for the poop to adhere too and just fall off.

I doubt the dealer will try to fix it and say it's user error. The only other thing I can think of is bad prep work when painting the truck at the factory...I highly doubt it though....it's a very much controlled process with robots painting and they don't polish in between the base coat and top coat.

I just wouldn't think something like that would've happened on a brand new truck. I mean that would have to be one big poop in order to cause a hole in the clear coat. That's just my opinion on it, but anything is possible I suppose!

I just know the paint is tough on my model due to the fact that someone placed a beverage can on the hood.... for several hours.... in the hot sun. It left a mark to say the least, but it ended up being hand buffed out!

I don't know about bird poop strength, but there are different types of birds and their poop like seagulls. I just try to avoid things that will bug me from seeing it... but since I bought my truck used because they don't make regular cabs anymore...I had to live with scratches....I am waiting for all my mods and then deciding to paint protection film the front clip of the truck or leave it...then apply paint protection coat like C. Quartz or Opti coat...but none of those are iron proof...Opti coat for me etched.

Beverage can condensation isn't really so bad compared to Los Angeles hard water and all the minerals.

For the OP... go see a detailer and see if they can doing anything to make it look good and then apply PPF on it...the clear coat shouldn't show so bad... would be my best bet to fixing it other than trying to spray some clear coat...not so how good that will work with all the chemical bonds and stuff with painting old coat.

This topic jumps at me. I have a story in relation to the paint. I just got my 2015 TRD OR tacoma in May and I only had 500 miles on it when I noticed all my fender guards were stained. The only thing I could think of that I had done was getting the truck washed a few times. The only thing that came to mind was something from the tires flew up under them from driving splashed and caused it. Either way I was pretty bummed out and mad about it. I had never ever experienced anything like this especially having a brand new truck. I called the dealer that I purchased it from and they did nothing, so after trying everything I could think of to get the stains out I tried going to another local dealer in the area and the service manager looked at it and was shocked also. He said that they can't have this and I shouldn't have to deal with this so they took care of it and fixed it be replacing the fender guards. I'm glad I got it taken care. Story takes another interesting turn. Right after I get it back I noticed a nice scratch on my passenger side door that got through the clear coat. Not so great luck so far, but when I saw this about the paint I had to share. I have two silverados before this tacoma and never had any paint issues what so ever. I hope this is the last of the paint woes. I hope you get the issue taken care of.

Not easy to take a picture of but here are a few. You can't really tell from the photos, but there is no clear coat at all in the spot. My last car made it to 200000 before the clear started peeling... An early start is upsetting.
Going to the dealer next month for 1st service - I'll ask then.

Bird Poop is the best guess, very irregular pattern like a splatter.

That's why you got to get bird poop off right away... don't park under trees...tree sap and birds pooping away...less likely that they poop while flying...but they do. It looks a like bird poop and first thing pop in my head when you mentioned about your clear coat.

Splatter is very clearly evident in each picture.
