Correct, no lift yet but say I was to do 3" lift kit would 285 fit on this wheel?

Yes, though going 285s will require trimming of the truck cab mounts regardless of the wheel.

I'm running 265/70R17 (1" larger than stock) and will be installing a 2" lift soon. Good balance for a daily driver IMO. Light C-load tires (KO2s) for good power and economy, no trimming of the truck, and does not require UCAs.
