Yup. Couple times. Y pipe back was replaced with mag cat, resonator, borla muffler, with 2.25 piping. Unplugged SIM. Code popped. Reset. Code popped. Reset again then plugged the O2 SIM back in.

Not sure if you will or not. I mean, the cel is just there to tell you your cat's not working properly. You could just run without a sim and let the light stay on, but if another code pops you're not gonna know. The sim isn't cheap either. But many guys have ran a high flow system without the code. Mine is still throwing for whatever reason.. I already had the sim so I just plugged it back in. I assumed my cats were clogged and decided to go all out with a whole new system, and assumed that my code wouldn't pop again. I may have another issue elsewhere though that I'm unaware of how to diagnose. Possibly a faulty a/f sensor throwing the mix off just enough, which I plan on replacing. I really don't know in my case why it's still throwing a cel. Bottom line is that you won't know either until you get it done and see what happens I think. Maybe someone else can chime in with better info.. But until then I wouldn't worry about it. If you go through with it, just make sure you get the proper cat specific for your vehicle. Even the universal ones aren't really universal and require a specific model to operate efficiently. I think the mag cat I got was over a hundred bucks. Just go on magnaflows website and cross reference them for the correct model number then type that in Amazon. Unless of course you're getting the bolt on one(s). Those, I've heard work without issues. Might just be the universal ones that are finicky. Anyways. Good luck.

Like 90% sure it doesn't affect anything. From what I understand, the rear O2 only senses if the cat is operating at peak efficiency. That's the reason for the sim when things like this are messed with. So it sends back a steady signal tricking it into thinking the cat is working fine. It's mostly for emissions. I don't require emissions so I have nothing to worry about. You on the other hand being in California, it most likely will. The direct bolt on ones will probably be ok. The descriptions of the high flow cats will tell you if it's California rated. Even then if it is, there's a chance the cat will throw a code. Or if not, there might even be a chance that it won't pass the test. I really don't know. I would change your title of this thread to something like: 'High flow cat in cali?', or 'cali spec high flow cat and emissions'. Something like that.. So people who has done this will chime in. Or post in the California section too to better your odds before you go through with anything.

Edit: the more I think about this, it's probably best you stick with oem type replacement cats. I don't think high flow cats really add any significant benefits. Like I said, I got a whole new system with a single high flow cat versus the stock dual cali spec setup, and didn't really feel any difference at all. Maybe a tiny bit more power in the but dyno, and probably due to my cai being paired with that. It would probably be cheaper and more practical to do an oem type replacement setup. Those bolt ons are crazy expensive.
