    Hey Guys,
I am thinking about renting a small skid steer this weekend to start some renovations in my yard. I only have to tow the skid steer maybe 3 miles home from home depot and I need some help with the trucks towing capacity.

The door sticker said GVWR 5450lbs, that's about what the skid steer and the trailer weighs. Trailer and skid steer is 5245lbs)

I do not have the 245\65\16 tires and wheels on my truck, I have 275\75\18's on (I was thinking the towing was limited by the tire size, no?)

Which tacos can tow the advertised 6500lbs and why does my door sticker not show that? Sorry I am confused now... lol

GVWR isn't the same as the combined GVWR, which includes the towed loads. (GCVWR)

GVWR is the max truck weight. Passengers, payload, that stuff.

You got the V6 with the tow package? If so you can max out at 6500.

I have no idea what this means, sorry I am a little dumb when it comes to towing capacity. Here is a picture of the sticker in my door.

I have no idea where I got that picture. I found it when I joined the Tundra forum in 09 when I still had a tundra. I was thinking I would be ok for 3 miles but just wanted to make sure.

Your sticker shows GVWR, meaning that your trucks max weight loaded is 5450lbs. This has nothing to do with towing. Truck + Fuel + Passengers + bed load (not trailer) cannot exceed 5450lbs.

Your truck is rated to tow 6500lbs. That is not on the sticker in the door. 5245lbs of your trailer is less than the 6500lbs the Tacoma is rated for, so it is within the Tacoma's towing limits. You are fine.

This isn't quite accurate. You can tow up to 6500 pounds or whatever, but you still aren't supposed to exceed the GCVWR. So, while you may be able to tow up to 6500lb with no passengers or payload, you will reduce the amount of towing capacity as you add those things to keep under the GCVWR.

OP, you should be fine for 3 miles. Does the trailer have brakes? Electric or surge? Make sure you can stop the trailer.

THANK YOU. I'm so glad someone else on here understands GCVWR. You're the first person that I've seen other than myself to post this.

Pffft, for 3 miles you can pull a semi if you can get enough traction. Make sure the trailer has working brakes.
