I believe that if you were to leave the bilsteins at the lowest setting and use taller coils to gain your lift then you're not loosing down travel because the shock absorber stays in it's natural position while the coil spring raises ride height. Would that be true? Not totally sure so correct me if I'm wrong

It doesn't matter what lift you have, if you raise your ride height you lose that in down travel and gain it in up travel. Only a spindle lift could raise your ride height while leaving stock up and down travel. But there are no spindle lifts for 4x4's, only prerunners.

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
OP, I know you're on a budget, so I'll offer my 14 years of lifted Taco experience for free...

Save up and do it right. Whichever direction you choose to gain the 3" you'll be much happier with the ride and the quality of the components if you save up for them and purchase better equipment. I cheaped out on my 95.5 Taco and went with a spacer lift first. Crappy ride and tons of headaches. Never again.

You're actually in a good position with your pre-runner because lift spindles will get you altitude and leave the rest of your geometry stock. Or you can wait and find good deals on TW as well:

Be patient, buy smartly. Good luck!

Don't be butthurt. A spindle lift will do exactly what you just said. Sounds like YOU don't know what you're talking about. 5100's suck as bad as spacers for lifting that high. That's my point.

Not butt hurt lol. Your post is mentioning how preloading coils is not the proper way of lifting. And your comment about eliminating down travel. What about King, Icon, and fox, which use a preload collar to adjust ride height? Is that not "proper"? So what is this lift you are talking about? You still just sound like you have no idea what you are talking about. lol You still didn't answer my question about downtravel. What happens to your down travel when you increase your ride height with an Icon coilover?

Clearly, you ARE butthurt. You keep repeating that I don't know what I'm talking about so quote me on what I've said that isn't FACT.

By you saying that 5100's is the way to go tells me you're clueless lol. I realize you're a 5100 bandwagon member, but they still suck and are a shitty way to lift.

I forgot how annoying it is to argue with people on the Internet. Thanks for the reminder. o_O

Did you not read my last post re:spindles?

You have your opinion and I have mine. I just get sick of how everybody thinks 5100's are some kind of magical way to lift a vehicle. They're a cheap way to lift just like spacers, but are FAR from being superior to anything.

I have supreme suspensions 2" spacer lifts to level my Tacoma and the ride wasn't really effected and the spacers are pretty cheap like $65.
