Been thinking about a truck for the last couple of years. Didn't take long to settle on a Tacoma. Read every Edmunds review for last ten years. Impressed with quality and like the look. Test drove 2015 last Fall but then wondered about potential redesign for 2016, especially since Edmunds had noted how little the Tacoma had changed (one year they added a cup holder!). Anyway, one Google search later and I was onto the 2016. I've been checking the web a little obsessively every since. After the debut, it's been a little frustating waiting for more info. The pricing leak was something. Than my daily search picked up this message board. It's great to read through the threads. You guys know how to get information! I do have questions as I think about which version to buy but will do that later. Thank you.

Just remember that the 2015 is available now, and well supported.

The 2016's may have 1st year problems, little aftermarket support, more costly, as well as a disputed look.

I do worry about the risk of a new model. I've assumed Toyota's reliability makes that less of a risk. But I'm interested in the new 6 cyl. thinking it'll help MPG and like what I see of the interior.

Welcome! I would not be as concerned about the new model issues that some people on here talk about. I have had many first-year models in my life and never had anything serious that made me regret the decision. In fact at least two vehicles had worse problems 2 to 3 years into the model year when they started cheapening up on things than what the first year models had.
Anyway, good luck with the buying experience and I am sure you will find a lot of useful information here.

I have to admit, my first impression of the grill and front end overall was that it was a little too boxy or pumped up when compared to the 2015. Other times, I've liked it. Generally, as others have said on this site, it's grown on me. I think it will take seeing it in real life to appreciate it. What I've liked about the Tacoma is that it seemed to strike that perfect balance as a midsize. Not too small (though the early models look that way) and not too big either. Saw an interesting piece about how other midsize trucks have grown with each iteration so that there's basically no difference between the mid and full size. I've hoped the 2016 Tacoma still strikes that right balance.

Awesome. Enjoy your first truck when you get it. Ignore the haters here, they just hate for the fun of it.

In the end, it's your personal preference. I mean every vehicle has its problems, so the debate on "new year release" doesn't accredit much. Yeah it may potentially have some opening flaws, but Toyota seems to take care of their customers. If you are really in to the 2016, I say buy it!

Thanks for the welcome and the encouraging words! This is a great site, especially after living with nothing but old news from the first release at the auto show and the non-news stories from the "Banner Herald" or whatever that site is that builds a column around things like the Go-Pro Mount.
