I just noticed the bottom of the tailgate and bottom of bed have been rubbing and for how long I'm not sure I hope they don't rub thru each other. Has anyone else experience this? 4238c0b0db7ab5003a7425d8a3eecf90_2cb0f4eadabd5354e6b2c5b60647b4d64ae15d0e.jpg

Mine has as well just since January when I picked it up. Is yours only on the driver's side also?

I wonder if the striker or hinge mount is misaligned?

    It should be self limiting.

Think about it this way, good thing you don't have a painted steel bed that will rust right there, or you didn't spend a lot of money on a Line-X job to have it rub through.

    Did you mod anything?

I got the relentless aluminum tailgate kit. I can't put the plastic back over it. Tailgate won't close all the way. :( Had to paint my aluminum which rubs off every time I slide anything over the tailgate.

No modding, only thing i had to do was cut down the rubber stoppers by the same thickness of the relentless fab skin so you didnt have to smush the bumpers soo much.

You could probably get away with undoing the bedsides slightly from the bed itself and sliding them back to get you some more room.

Ever discover what was causing the contact? Mine does it on driver side only at 12,000 miles.

With an older truck I would say that the hinge bushing is worn. In your case it can probably be adjusted by loosening the hinge mounts. With 12K miles are you still under warranty? If so let the dealer fix it.

Jimmyh- thanks for the reply, and that was my original thought as well. But I have tried a couple dealerships and non of them have body shops nor know how to fix it.

Mine is a 2014 and has done it since day one also. I have the relentless fab tailgate reinforcement now, but I didn't put the plastic shell back on because I didn't want it to rub.

    working on it!
My 2017 has the sane problem. I took it in once and they tightened some bed bolts. Seemed to fix it for a while but its doing it again.

My 2018 has this issue and I am at the dealership now. When I came yesterday they said my tailgate was out of alignment and said this is a body shop issue. They proceeded to ask if the truck had been hit or damaged (it hasn't). This AM I went to the body shop as instructed by the service department and they said the tailgate is fine but the bedliner maybe out of alignment. I was then told to go back to the service department because the body shop doesn't replace bedliners under warranty. Service department says a tech case needs to be open and told me to come back. I told them they need to at least take photos and write whatever they need for Toyota. This dealership is 25 miles each way from my house. I had a feeling this would be an issue so I already opened a case with Toyota yesterday. I will share what comes of this. Clearly this is a manufacturer defect. I frankly don't care, I just want it fixed so I can live my best life .
