Doesnt the 450h only use Atkinson cycle on the hybrid 3.5 v6? I still think it is a different motor.

Toyota has never been able to keep up with GM and Ford in the mpg department when it comes to SUVs/pickups. Why will the 2016 Tacoma be any different? History suggests it won't.

It is most definitely a different motor and functions entirely differently in how they run Atkinson cycle.

Not from the horses mouth. And I'm not saying its wrong, Im just saying "meh..." Ill wait until the official release before making any serious comment on the new Tacoma's output.

As others have said, and myself a few times, there is an invite only release event for the media in mid August. You'll likely see all the specifications and first glace reviews come out then. That way Toyota can create the most buzz about the 2016's for the least investment.

Toyota is a stickler with promotion costs. That's why you see the same 4 prototypes being paraded around the country. The 1,000 news articles last week about the GoPro addition did make me a little suspicious about how Toyota is asking for press coverage. The GoPro mount was announced in January and several news articles are touting it like it's hot off the press.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
The reason why they going around and touting GoPro is because the engine specs are utter failure....
Toyota is not secretive, they just don't want to admit they f...ed up and its too late to fix it.

Here is Feb 2004 article. Toyota was nto secretive back then when they had best in class engine..
    http://www.caranddriver.com/news/toyota-tacoma-x-runner-auto-shows

Now its very hard to make positive spin on minivan engine in the truck..
    GoPro articles are Red Herring.

Those waiting for MPG better get their tissue box ready...

10 less HP and 1 less torque than the new Pilot and probably new Ridgeline motor. Now the Tacoma and Ridgeline will be real head to head competitors, except for the higher payload in the Ridgeline that is.

At least the Tacoma has a frame, until it rusts....

So what makes it a minivan motor? Displacement? Is the gen 1 3.4 liter a minivan motor too?

No. The 2.7l I4 is though. Specifically R&D'd through the Previa.

Minivans and compact pickups do overlap as far as their duty goes. Moderate payloads and moderate towing with some emphasis on fuel economy. A 7 passenger minivan, needs to carry a lot of fat Americans around ya know.

Maybe it's the displacement. Maybe it's the lack of Diesel or V8 options. Maybe it's the 4 crankshaft bearings that BlueT keeps seeing.
