The capacity of the Toyota rack is just 100 lbs "evenly distributed", (I have also read 75 out there, but my manual says 100) so you will really be left with little capacity for load once you mount the basket.

My 2011 came with a factory roof rack. I used it to haul my kayaks once... ONCE. They are rated for 100LBS though I would never consider putting that much weight on them. When I traded for my 13 I knew that I wasn't going the factory route again. There are 2 racks that I would recommend.

    FrontRunner Vehicle Outfitters and Prinsu

I "personally" chose the FrontRunner because of the cleaner design and unlimited amount of mounting options they offer. Prinsu is a very good rack also. I just didn't care for the look as much. That's just my opinion. They are both very good high quality racks and you can't go wrong with either one.

I'm pretty much where you are on the factory rack and my kayak. Do you by chance have the sharkfin antenna? I need to find out which racks provide sufficient clearance and would like to understand how badly they interfere with the signal. Warrior Products also has a very nice rack worth looking at. They are checking into the antenna clearance/signal question right now.

Yes I have a shark fin antenna. Mine clears the rack by about 2mm but doesn't affect reception of satellite radio at all.
