Oil going in. Thanks everyone especially AK. Always nice to know someone else has already dealt with it with good results.

And now that I've done all 3 litres it looks like I only had one cap on any of the 3 bottles anyways. Might not have even been on it. Geez

Anyone else cringe at the idea of dumping water in the diff on purpose?

Thank you, @AK Taco, for explaining this. I was lost on what plastic piece the OP was talking about.

Perhaps a gear oil syringe with a wide hose could suck up that cap:

Well I mean don't take my success as absolute truth

But I'm pretty sure in a battle between a tiny bit of plastic and the gears of a rear end the gears are gonna win every time.

Plus, plastic is made from oil soooooo it's basically just like adding more oil :cookiemonster:

Nope no issues at all CC. Feels tight as a drum and about to do another change in 10k so should find out how the cap did in the end.

Any issues? I just had that happen to me...was trying to see if I had enough room to use the bottle and dropped the cap in :(
Did it ever drain out or did you ever see any pieces drain out?

Well, oil floats on water, so he maybe is hoping that it'll balance at the interface between the water and the oil so that it.... something something something?

No issues at all. Just leave it there. I’m going to be doing another flush soon when the weather changes so will be interesting to see how it comes out.

That’s good news. I’m curious if you see any plastic particles come out. I tried to fill it with some gear oil and drain it but that didn’t help it come out. I filled it back up and so far no issues. I’m still so mad at myself.

Was changing my differential oil this weekend and I inadvertently squirted the cap from the oil bottle inside the fill hole. Made several attempts to remove with a coat hanger and plastic staw by trying to move the cap over to the drain hole where I could remove but to no avail. Also tried refilling the old oil and draining again. And last l tried spraying canned air for electronic key boards and thetcap is he still in there. (Has not come out). I think I am just going to leave the plastic cap in there.

I’ve still seen no issues so far. I’ve been meaning to change it and see what comes out but the weather has been awful. Once it changes I’ll give an update

By the way those plastic oil bottle caps will only float in water (I tested to see if they could in different viscosity oils and mineral spirits but they stay at the bottom.) I would not use water to drain out the cap but that could work but too risky. What I have decided is to refill with the old oil and drive the truck for a couple days at say 45 mph. Then will drain the oil and see what comes out.
