So for the past month my A/C will periodically make my engine die when going from moving to idle. Also, it only cools for about 15 minutes and then blows outside temp air.

I bought a recharge bottle at the auto parts store with a gauge and it says it's charged.

What I've started doing is when I know I'm going to clutch it and roll to a stop, I'll kick off the A/C. When I stop, I can immediately kick the A/C back on and it'll idle. But 9 times out of 10 if I don't kick it off and put in the clutch it will stall the engine.....

    Thoughts?

what is your warm engine and a/c off idle speed?

and does the fast idle kick in like it is supposed to when you turn on the a/c?

Warm idle is usually between 1,000 and 1,200 rpm. Sometimes the fast idle kicks in, sometimes it doesn't seem to.

that's way too high, warm idle is 650 so check for vacuum leaks, I bet you have a cracked hose somewhere

the fast idle is controlled by vacuum as well

Have you ever cleaned the throttle body and the IAC?

It's less Tacoma and more mod
You are idling way too fast. Normal idle for mine is around 650-750 and 850 with A/C fast idle.

I had a bunch of engine electrical problems in the past on this pickup in which after the fact had very high idle. I just thought it was a computer controlled issue....

I guess I'll buy a mile of vacuum line and start replacing. Any suggestions on which lines to try first?

I'd start with the ones that are leaking.

Really there's no way of knowing from here which if any are causing you problems. Any one of them can be an issue. A propane torch comes in handy in tracking down the trouble spots.

I know that my 2015 2.7L when I turn on the AC the engine shutters badly can't wait till this starts occurring. I just leave it off windows rolled down.

Ha! I knew that was coming..... ;)

I might just buy a ton of vacuum hose and wholesale replace.... 20 years old, no telling how many small leaks there may be.

Thanks for the heads up gentlemen...
