Since its been happening lately (not in my area but you never know), i will need to think about security for my cats. Anyone have a quick mod in doing this?

I guess an aftermarket alarm might help, but im looking for a homemade type of security...since access to it is easier being that im lifted now.

does radio shack exist anymore ?

    deterrent flash

step 1: get a 12v tiny green or red led that has a built-in blink circuit

step 2: wire it up to ignition off 12v supply, tap it from anywhere, the draw is negligible

step 3: affix it somewhere underneath that it is near the cats but not going to melt and
obvious that a crook would see it

    it'll look like an alarm

Cage it, that is what I would do. If they are determined, at least it would take them a while, which increases the chances of someone busting them in the act.

Catalytic converter thefts in The City are on the rise again. I feel bad for those that have lost their kitties. Catalytic converters are a great thing to have to help ensure we all have nice clean air to breathe. The only real way to stop thieves is with something that will require the thief to take longer than usual to remove, i.e. a skid plate with hex hardware. Many moons ago I worked at a Toyota dealership in parts. We had a customer who had his cat stolen, then we replaced only to have it stolen again. I felt bad for the guy and directed him to a metal working shop in SSF who built him "cat protection" skid plates. I never saw him come in again... You can weld the nuts on the flanges, you weld the flange; the truth is a sawzall will just cut a little further down the pipe( or if they are being silent, a pipe cutter).

Crappy TW hyperbole aside( get a gun, chain your guard dog to your truck, just remove them you don't need em, weld weld weld...), a solid plate with confounding hardware deters them every time.

Anybody with the cat shield, can you confirm if this will fit a lifted truck with the bars that attach to the DB to the frame?

I'm not to sure as my Taco is just leveled by 883/5100 on 4-corners. Go to OR-FAB website that have installation instructions may help you Fredfifty.

I just got a call from 4wheelparts and they said they talked to orfab, its looking like it COULD be a 4-5 hr install at $113/hr mainly because they are not sure if they have to drop the suspension down (basically an install over again) and also they would have to re-align again. Looking like way too much work/$. Probably gonna pass on the cat shield, damn!

Some one with a chain cutter will have them in a matter of minutes. The greatest protection is insurance.

Dumb question, why would someone steal a catalytic converter? Doesn't seem like a high demand item to me..

They're very expensive, and consequently they can get a decent amount of money for them.

Crack heads can get like $40-$75 for them at a scrap yard did to the rare metals in the catalyst. Especially popular are older Toyota's since they had a fairly high quantity of rare metals.
