Yes, but no one is claiming city mileage will improve drastically on the new Tacoma. It will be on the highway that the mileage jumps the most.

BTW I'm not a huge fan of saying weight has much to do with extreme mileage savings because I, well my wife, owns a 2015 F150 with it's 800 lbs of weight loss. It gets the biggest gains on the highway though, where the much improved aerodynamics come in play.

There are no Girly Diesel engines, that's like saying there are girly Kung Fu masters... its oxymoron :D
If that's really the same Engine GM had produced in Thailand for the rest of the world than its actually quite good engine.
Belt is not something I would be happy with, but I take belt in Diesel over chain in high revving engine any day. (replacing belt on engine that was build that way that way is much easier than replacing timing guides and idlers. )

WTH do you do to your truck exactly @BlueT? I guess if strapping dynamite to your engine is what you consider "doing truck stuff" then yeah, you will damage your oil squirters...

I just don't want a belt at all in my engine. There isn't any need for them anymore. Chains are well past proven, even in high rpm applications. For a truck I plan on keeping around for a while a belt means extra maintenance and time wasted fooling around with something I don't need to play with.
I'm not going to go on an easter egg hunt through the third gen forum. I don't screen shot your comments. It was back when @Jeff Lange was posting pictures of the new engine from a parts guide. You made comments that the oil squirter pipes under the engine made the engine unreliable and were a carry over from mini vans. It was on the same thread as your 4 bearing comments :D.

Look, I'm really just bugging you man. You jump on things a little quick and it bites you in the ass sometimes. It's just funny to watch.

It would be but they are not bringing it because Toyota is stupid. Regardless if I ever buy Colorado or not, I hope that diesel will make Toyota eat their own shit...

We could have 30 MPG Tacoma with 400 lb-ft of Torque ... instead we have lifted minivan because according to the same retarded Toyota engineer who thinks Turbo does not save on fuel, - there is no way to bring small Diesel to US...
GM will charge only$3000+ for Diesel option.. So how is that possible Toyota.... . :bananadead:

Some of the best engines Toyota has ever made had a shitty timing belt. But then again even Toyota couldn't recreate it's past success. I trust them.......in some cars.

LOL. My brother just texted me and said he spotted a 2016 Tacoma roaming around and confirmed it does at least look like a van. He said he thought it was a Highlander.

Ha ha except that wasn't me...

Going back to belt, Belt vs Chain depends on the engine. Belt in high rev engine, chain in low engine. So GM and Toyota got backwards. But I am ok with Belt in Diesel. Its extra maintenance but beats replacing timing guides on high rev, timing chain engine.
Since I own Honda too, I have to do timing belt , its pain but I get it, they want that Honda engine to be able to spun at 4000 - 5000 RPMS with easy so I guess thats what you get.

Yes, but much like steel engine blocks and pushrods engines have moved past that technology. At one time chains were unreliable. Now I'd say it's the other way around. I have friends with Mistu's with timing belts that can't get 20K until it wears out . Well Toyota is a much better designer and builder than Mitsu, I just would rather have a chain over a belt for simplicity sake.
All of the new midsizes looke van-ish. It has to do with the aerodynamics. Just look at the Hilux and other tough international trucks. They look like cars. Hopefully if the Ranger ever comes back it will get the grill off the F150. That would look sick on a small truck.

He doesn't BS around. I'll ask him though. He's leaving town so must have spotted it on the I-5 freeway. If anything ill just go searching for it later and stop in at the local dealers to scope things.

I am not a big fan of Mike Sweers's design approach. Not saying he had ultimate say on exterior style but holy crap, the 2016 exterior opinion is overwhelmingly negative. That being said, the FJCruiser is one of the most hideous looking cars out there and I would totally love to have one if I could.

They had to incorporate a large grill for pedestrian safety regulations that are expected to be passed in Europe and the US.

Yeah cause that big grill is gonna save me when I get hit by a Tacoma going 40 mph while I am crossing the road. Pretty much every truck now is ugly as shit. Huge goofy-looking front ends and air damns scraping the pavement. The Gen 2 Tacoma was the most proportionally-sound truck on the market.

IIRC all the new bumpers are built so that at 5-15 mph when you hit someone you don't break there femur. Breaking a femur in a collision can lead to death pretty quick from bleeding out.
