So, I've been out camping with my better half a few times in the truck, and we like to sleep in the bed rather than a tent ever since I bought a camper shell. Less setup, less wind noise and insulation so it's a little warmer. One thing that's bothered me since we started doing this, though, is the lack of space to put our beer, coolers, cider or whatever else. I was determined to come up with a clean solution to the problem and I came up with this! I ordered some white plastic folding holders from Amazon, fabbed up some brackets to bolt them to the accessory rails. I liked the nighttime visibility of white but they look gaudy when they're not in use, so I separated the halves of the folding holder and derped the outer shell black. I'm pretty happy with the finished product. What do you think? I didn't do any research before I hit the workshop. Maybe there's an easier way?

This is a great mod. Tacomas don't have nearly enough cup holders :anonymous:

I agree. Not having a cut out for a cup/beer on the inside of the tailgate is just plain ludicrous!

With the truck parked in the driveway and me out wandering the neighborhood with a beer in my hand (in true redneck style) I often need to set my beer down to help the kids with something, etc. My default is to place it just inside the truckbed but I had been thinking how handy it would be to have a cupholder mounted to the bedrail - nicely done. Did you put any thought to a non-foldable version?

I'd buy a couple if you make up a batch.

I hadn't considered a non-folding version myself, mainly because I value cargo space and when I haul gear I don't like it snagging on stuff. What I need to find is a 3/8" thumb screw that'll make moving the cup holders around easier without bulking the unit up... Hmmm.

Bought these at academy for $6 each and mounted them with a t-nut.

I bought them from academy and they are by attwood. I drilled a hole on the inside and used those tnuts to mount then on the rails
