I wonder with these layoffs and cutbacks from Shell and Chevron, if the housing market will start to go down as well.

 

That's what I've been told, but I haven't seen it happen yet. It's going to take some time before people start getting out of oil and gas and realize they have to leave Houston.

 

I'd love to buy a house soon, but I don't think I'll see a drastic price drop until a year or so.

Only bought my house cause my interest rate is amazing. Over 30 years even 1% is very substantial.

 

My group at Audubon had 15 engineers and around 25 designers. They are now down to 4 engineers and around 10 designers. That's just the structural group though. They are in a hiring freeze and have announced that no bonuses or raises will be awarded at the end of the year.

I guess it's a blessing that they cut me when they did as I've found a job outside of oil and gas.

Housing will probably start going down in 1-2 years. It takes a while for it to hit. Sad time to see our economy get to this point again. So many businesses going under and so many lay offs.

 

This is not the 80s boys and girls. A correction is happening, but it certainly isn't going to crater the region.
