I'm trying to figure out how to make use of the area under the rear seats in my 1st gen.

I think the cubbies are only big enough for 8" subs lol

Yeah. I have two air leaks. That I need to address. So I am thinking spray foam around the seem of the lid in the interior. Also I actually didn't use any fiberglass yet

I sealed all holes with aluminum tape. Then laid down 3-4 tiles of deadener. I did epoxy wood 2x2 poplar mounts for the front 4 screws.

After that I used the gasket on the lid and siliconed The lid down.

I may open her up this weekend and glass the lower bin to give it additional rigidity. Also I will fix air leaks at this time. Add polyfill and call it a day.

It sounds good for two 8". I need to properly tune before I can comment on sound. Pretty impressive design. A lot of work but the storage space gained is well worth it.

there isn't enough airspace there for anything bigger than 8s,
After that is a Bling factor and thats about it. You may be louder in the upper freq of the "substage" but anything lower than 45hz will suffer badly

There is about maybe 1 or 2 specialty subs that can have a 10+ work and thats the sundown sd3 which is solid for small sealed applications but don't kid yourself

If you are looking to piss the people off next to you, get a car or fill the bed of the truck with speakers and do a blow through.

not at all, ever heard of the crazy 8 show down ? There is guys with 8s that demolish people with 15s

I think quite different than most people :
For me, i look at exactly where and how i can make the gains required for added volume. Then i shop for the subs based on the available space and parameters of that build. Im not a guy that says ah i want a 12 so lets build a box for it.

I have seen so many people jam a sub into a box thats 1/2 the optimal air space just to have that sub in the truck.

It's all about the box IMO. I've seen crap subs in good boxes that sound decent. I've seen amazing subs in crappy boxes that just sounded horrible. Box building is an art form.

As for 8's, anything can pound hard. But remember there is not a lot of air space under the seats. You'll need some air space to hit big SPL numbers. That's why I said fill the bed with speakers, I never said what size of speakers. ;)

Anyone try/do this in an Access Cab?
Looks like if you pull the center cupholder, it's about the same thing, give or take under there.

FYI, a dual 8" setup sports about 426 square centimeters of cone area. A single 12" sub is only slightly more at about 480. As long as you have a fair amount of xmax a dual 8" setup can displace PLENTY of air. I'm running some BG Radia 8" subwoofers and love them. Great drivers with killer potential. :D

I would recommend using bag sealing tape to fix your air leaks from the inside of the enclosure. this will be further effective with the additional pressure when the subs hit. plus, you can stack on top of the tape itself with more tape. can be used as a permanent fix, but can also be removed if need be. a lot less messy than laying down some fiberglass and resin.

    Those look awesome!

Hmm.. Couple of those on each side under the flippy down seats, plus a typical access-cab style box in the middle housing maybe something like a shallow 12 of some flavor would make a pretty good distributed setup.

Maybe do a band-pass on the 8's so they can really boogie down to a happy high-pass frequency, and let the 12 take it from there.
