I followed up with my local dealership this week for an update on when my new frame might be in. They had inspected the truck and ordered the frame in May. They advised me today that they are replacing frames that were ordered in December....thats 7-8 months, when they originally advised it would be 3-4 months. Has anyone had any luck contacting toyota's assistance hotline (800 331 4331)? This time frame puts me out to November/December. I will not be driving a corolla when it could be snowing. I bought a 4 x 4 to ensure I could get to work and my wife to work at the local hospital. If I took twice as long to do something like this, my customer's would not be back...

Did anybody get issues with Transmission after the frame replecement ?
My transmission has hard time shifting from D to N. Any other combination seems fine, but when I shift from D to N it takes good minute or two to finally go to N.

    Folks -

Have been reading this forum with a lot of dread, wanted to find out the deal after my service advisor told me I get a new frame.

He told me in April about the recall and put in the paper work after the tech found some through corrosion (yes, he did go at it pretty hard). I was allowed to have my truck (2005 - 235,000 miles) until the parts came in.

Right now, the truck is at the shop; they gave me a little RAV4 for the week. It went in Monday, he says next Monday I should be done.

I was told absolutely no charges to me, all new leaf springs, stabilizers, etc come with the kit. He even sent me photo of the dis-assembled truck for posterity.

So far, so good. Now all it has to do is run correctly....:fingerscrossed:

I live in southern NJ, the dealerships can be hit or miss...

UPDATE Feb 2011 - Trunk running like a champ, no issues!

I just got back from my dealer and counted 6 new frames awaiting installation. Parts are still missing missing so the wait continues. It is nice to see some new hardware finally. They look great without any rust that I can see. I know some have said their new frames were already rusting but the ones I saw today looked great. Been sitting for about 3 weeks.

I got my truck back from the spray, no new frame. There is a film of some sort on all outside windows, which means on the truck as well, it's dark out now. ...not happy.

Just got mine back from dealer had it for 6 months, had a silverado as a rental. It was fun the v8 and all the room. But I didn't like being in government motors truck. Fun v8 though. Dealer just needs to tighten my e brake cables and fix a new clunk in the front other then that. New frame and 4 pack leaf springs is nice :) real nice total bill for Toyota was 21k including rental

I was also one of the lucky ones that got a new frame like you!
They did a very good job,and i also kept my truck until they got all the parts,so a waiting time of around over four months .When they called me,i brought it in and it took them five days to do the complete job.
I would nt have been happy with just that black stuff that some of the guys had on.
A local guy that i know had that stuff on,and i was nt impress when i saw that,Man will that stuff really stop that corrosion?? I doubt it!!!
Glad that my frame was replaced.
    Regards
    Charly

Decided not to have it done. Going to trade in on a Tundra most likely. They're giving me a good deal and I got them to $11k for the trade (05 with 155k miles and in fair condition).

Aubrey Alexander. Doesn't matter. The truck I was going to put a deposit on sold in transit. Now back to square one. Tundras are hard to come by around here. May end up in an F150.

My 06 with 74k just failed frame inspection. Born in freemont california and lived in illinois ever since. Ive never been so happy to fail something in my entire life. Getting 4 other recalls taken care of now and shes going into surgery sometime next month. Apparently tomorrow is the last day they are accepting frame recalls.

Just remember as soon as you get your truck back,,, you need to paint that frame, and once its dried put fluid film on it. Otherwise in 7 years from now that thing is goign to have the same issue.

Not exactly sure, my advisor said that tomorrow was the last day but thatdidnt make much sense cuz i thought we had till like march 2016. If you were contemplating it i would stop by a dealer tonight for an inspection just incase.

What should i paint it with? Sorry if its been said before. I've heard of that fluid film stuff but yeah i was thinking of paying them to undercoat it before they swap all the parts onto the new frame. Do you know anybody else that did something like that?

I tried to get mine to do it but they gave me a lot of grief about. gave up.
I Just painted first round of items with Farm paint (used on Farm equipment so is rust, acid chemical proof)
Once is done I will spray the hell out of it with fluid film...

on a phone call with ask toyota they stated "that vehicle would be returned to "factory specification"

i asked them to email me that statement but they wouldn't, so i replied to the asktoyota canned email they sent when i contacted them with this note just so i would have it documented.

"Had a conversation regarding 6 month wait and impact on fuel system, ie gas turning to varnish. They stated that vehicle would be returned to "factory specification" and implied fuel system would be flushed/cleaned, however, they were unwilling to email that statement, stating that information regarding my truck was "proprietary"."

    they replied with this

"Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc.
We appreciate your feedback regarding the impact on the fuel system while waiting to have the frame replaced.
Your email has been documented at our National Headquarters. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us .
    Sincerely,
    Karma P.

Can someone tell me how big a problem this is overall? Approximately what percentage of Tacoma's have rusted frames? Right now I'm on the fence about buying a 2015, 2016, or even a Frontier, having to deal with a rusted out frame is a deal killer.

    Hi
If you are shopping for a 2015 and up ,it will be OK,don t worry.
These recalls are only up to 2009 ,,i think, but certainly not 2015 or 2016
Good luck into finding a great Tacoma!!
