    Hi all,

I have a 2004 Lunar Mist TRD Double Cab, only 84k miles and clean car fax. Clean inside and out, as well as mechanically.

I drive a company car and am toying with selling this truck, but I'm curious as to what range all of you think something like this is worth. Yes I've done a kbb on it and all that, but I like to defer to the Tacoma experts as well.

Ah ok, then I would say up to $10-11k for the mileage.

    First things first, nice truck!

Here we go. As a rule, I never go by kbb. It is a good baseline first reference, but nothing more. I swear, some people think kbb price ranges are laws or something. Here's what I would do...(here's what I did do with my 96 4runner)

Go on autotrader, craigslist, every used car sales resource you can find. Search for first gen tacos within several hundred miles of your location and see what people are asking for them in your area. Set the initial price high, quite high. Wait. People are going to call, a lot of people are going to call. They will offer you kbb price, cash. Don't do it! Wait it out! People are going to tell you that you are asking way too much, do not be offended! All it takes is one person who really wants your precious taco. The high price gives you SOME wiggle room for serious buyers. If after a month you have no serious (close) offers, lower the price a bit and repeat.

My 4runner had a kbb value of $3k for perfect condition. I put it up for $6k (it was beautiful, btw) After about a month and a half of people bitching at me for it being priced to high, I lowered it to $5k. Sold it the very next day. I almost took $4k after a month of waiting because I was a little discouraged...glad I didn't.

Bottom line, you have a clean, well maintained first gen taco with low miles. Lots of people looking for exactly that. DO NOT GIVE IT AWAY :)

If your from southern California 13k ...easy.

Just make sure to remove the black rims.

I bought my 02 Pre-Runner DC TRD Limited with 72,000 miles for 13k last October and thought I got a very good deal after looking for several months. Truck was from Hawaii completely rust free.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Keep it, you won't find another with low miles like that for anything less than 13k imo. Mine had 74k when I got it and I would never let it go for less than 13k right now and it's a 4x4.

Agreed. Everything in Socal will be worth more. Mostly because we dont get rain, snow, or other things that cause corrosion and frame rust. In all my experience, a few of the consumer level cars i have seen surprisingly hold their value are: 66-71 Merecedes SL's, 89-91 BMW M3's, and 01-04 Prerunner Tacoma's.

The KBB is a good starting point, but it does not reflect how location and lack of other clean example of you car/truck can affect the value of your car. Your Taco looks exceptionally clean (not molested like we love to do to ours), with low mileage. If in Southern California, id say $13000ish or more, probably more like $14k. Where is it that your located? If in the midwest or northern US, the value could be more around $11000-12000.

Anything that is not stock will lower value, but the black stock rims i don't see as something you need to worry about in valuation.

Thank you all for the input! I am in no hurry to sell it so certainly I don't need to blow it out to the first offer, and I like the suggestions here. I am in FL, and this is an original FL truck.

NADA and KBB are the average ranges of vehicles that have sold in your area. I believe the printed books are sent out to their general areas, and I know online they ask for zip so they're using the right data. It's all location location location. Up here, good luck giving away a 4x2, down there people probably look at you weird if you want a 4x.

It's not an absolute but most people will have a hard time paying 15k when they know a majority of the identical vehicles have sold for 10. If I have a hard to find vehicle, odds are I can get more just because their are none of them on the market. If I have a dime a dozen vehicle, I'm likely going go cheaper if I want to actually sell.

I usually take KBB and NADA with a grain of salt. I just checked the value of my truck on them both. NADA said it was closer to 8k, and KBB said it was 5k.

Many people including myself around here would kill to find a truck like mine for 8k and 5k is just an insult. Realistically, around here, trucks like mine go for around 10-12k. There's a four door first gen down the street from me currently listed for 15k. I tried to buy a tacoma that was better off being thrown in the junkyard or crushed for $3,000 and they laughed and wholesaled it off to Mexico for more.

I think the lesson here is that the market sets the value.

I'm definitely in a more 2wd market. That said, if I decide to sell I'm in no hurry so I can feel out where the market is for sure.

Well I decided to keep it. This thing is just too good to let go - I came really close to selling it and it didn't sit well. I'm convinced that this is one of the best examples around my area of a first generation, and with the low miles on it its just getting broken in.

It's a keeper for my family, I may not 'need' a truck right now but in the long run things change and it's gonna be good to have this thing around.
