Yeah, it is really cheap. At some point you have to take some risk when the price is so low. Hmmm. Still scary though. With my luck, this thing will wind up having more crap wrong with it than the Civic, and it will all present itself as soon as we get home with it

but bottom line is its a Toyota so you have your dealer mechanics and all your friends here to help you "if" you do have any problems. that's worth a whole hell of a lot right there.

but being its so cheap I bet it doesn't have cruise control either, that would explain why its so cheap if it has no power windows/lock or cruise control

Oh good grief. Just struck me all over again that I am totally housebound til we resolve this. This sucks guys!! I have errands!! We are outta whiskey, Dolly wants her daily squirrel chasing adventure, I have movies/books at the library to pick up, gotta get crab cake ingredients.........damnit!! All gonna have to wait for the Taco to get home tonight :(

Wait!! If I use those oats instead of bread crumbs I *think* I can pull off crab cakes without going to the store. Hmm. Too hot for the park anyway. Any idea how to make whiskey at home? :D

EDIT: My main goal today should be putting together a solid plan of where the heck we are looking at cars this entire weekend!!!

You're buying a Corolla now? Geez, I haven't been on this thread for a while but it sounds like nothing but more problems with another vehicle now :D

I know someone's going to get pissy about this, but if you aren't paying cash and you want a good small car consider the Elantra. You can get them 1 or 2 years old for under 10K USD and they're actually pretty reliable. My wife had a Sonata for a while and I'd say it's probably the best car I had drove for some time in that sort of price range and we had no issues.

Yep. That's part of why I freaked so hard when the truck died in December. I knew this time was coming for years, because we had 2 vehicles aging at the same rate, racking up miles. But Eric always said, "the truck will never break, at least not until 300K+!" So we figured we'd be facing replacement cost on the Civic soon, but not thousands on the truck. Then that shit happened. And now this shit with the Civic is happening as expected, but sucks so much worse since it's on the tail end of the Taco crap. Will be very glad when our vehicle issues are behind us!!!

I used to own a Nissan truck, everything Nissan must be ordered and cost 2-3 times what normal parts cost, I would avoid for that reason but as long as you don't need parts they are great and very reliable brand similar to toyota

Nah. I don't walk more than a block unless it's through somewhere beautiful. :D I'll wait for the Taco to get home tonight, and in all likelihood, stay glued to the computer for the better part of the day, searching for the next lovemy_____lots mobile

Wow really? I always felt like Toyota parts were crazy expensive, or at least for the Taco. Are Nissan parts even worse?

Or you think it's just that truck parts in general are more, whether Nissan or Toyota?

Newer Civics have minor electrical issues, not to mention all the model year changes they've made in the last 5 years which will hurt the amount of parts available. Sentra's are fine, but very gutless until you get into the performance models. Avoid the Mazda 3. The newer Ford Focus actually holds up very well. Same with the Elantra. Avoid anything from Chrysler and Fiat. Subaru will be expensive and will need a bit more maintenance. Avoid the Mistu Lancer. Avoid the Cruze/Cobolt.

If I were buying I think the best bang for the buck is an Elantra, Focus, or Sentra. In that order. I'd avoid the Corolla and Civic if you are keeping them for a while because they tend to command a premium price.

Thanks for the advice buddy!

I don't understand what you mean in that last sentence though - why not spend more if you can expect it to last longer than another vehicle type? Or is that not how you meant it?
