I'm getting mixed reviews on whether switching to synthetic after running conventional oil for so long, is it good/bad. If it's fine what weight should I run? Thanks

You should be fine, When I bought my truck at 72k, I put syn in it without knowing what the prev owner had run.
I'm at 125k now with no problems.
Just use the weight the oil cap says.
