if you want LED bulbs that are really brighter then stock backup bulbs and not just white light instead of yellow light, these are the best ones to buy http://www.vleds.com/921-15-w-6k.html

a different "color" light can "look" brighter to your eyes but still not light up the area behind you to any measurable improvement to help you see better so you need to make sure its putting out more illumination

I like the flush mount pod idea where you cut a square hole on each side of your bumper. You will not have any problems seeing when you back up after that mod.

I agree, but I hate cutting into things so I would mount something under the bumper for backup lights.

the stock backup lights are like most cars in that it lights the area back there but doesnt give you much light to be able see everything with

well. one big issue here is that your backup lights are meant to be seen, not meant to help you see. best thing to do is probably fix a fog light to your bumper or something to that effect. Or you can get aftermarket taillight assemblies that allow for more light to pass through or maybe bigger bulbs!

I bought all my LED Bulbs including the bulbs when I did my LED Gauge swap from superbrightleds.com. Little pricey but top quality!

I got these on eBay a while back. Can't remember the details. But they are pretty bright. I'll see if I can get some output shots tonight.
    Edit:think its these
    http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav=item.view&id=171866914689&alt=web

Edit again... Only problem with these though, is there's absolutely no reflector illumination. So that means when you're in reverse, people can't see that as it's just a tiny dot shining through the projector lens. At night they can see it, but during the daytime you can't even really tell I'm in reverse unless you're directly behind. So pulling out of a parking space can sometimes be a pain as people won't stop to let you out. But what's new with that anyways I guess. People are just assholes and don't let you out regardless, ha. Anyways.. just thought I'd throw that out there.. I do plan on doing some flush mount 8" led bars in the bumper though. Eventually.

Awesome and all for those who use the 1156 bulb as a tail light, but the OP has 921 bulbs :-\ they use a dual contact wedge style. doing a quick search, someone said they used 5050 bulbs that are LED and did them justice. check it out.

OP I'm in the same boat. I really don't want to cut my bumper. And I don't have time right now to gather parts for and install mounted LED's. After exhaustive research, it looks like the best options as far as just upgrading the bulbs are either Jumpers LEDs (a TW vendor) or the Philips 921 from Amazon.

Oh my bad. I forget some have different style bulbs, ha. Well, another option for you guys then, would be to get some extra auxiliary lights mounted underneath the bumper. they wouldn't take much to install. There's a thread here somewhere about them.. I think one guy used zip ties or something for his. But I'm sure there's something more sturdy than that you could use to secure them better. Maybe the metal zip ties. If you're looking for an easy install that is and don't wanna cut or even drill holes on the underside.. And they're cheap.

Whiter/brighter/dimmer arguments aside... Things seemed much better lit with the incandescent Silverstar 921s. My two cents.

I'm in the same boat. Getting old. I went the LED route. Went with direct LED replacement for my backup lights. The vendor is in this forum. Great guy to deal with. He's very busy so be patient. The members name is csjumper2003. He has a huge thread.
