From my understanding, it is only minor things...drive shaft vibe, decent gear ratios in the manual (and fix the throwout bearing), the frames are still rusting prematurely...better mpg and hp/tq.

    In a nut shell, yes?

How many people are having trouble with the HVAC fan? a coworker has already gone through 3 of them. Apparently according to him its a common problem.

It is the resistor, yeah? IIRC it has been updated.

Basically little things...other than the frame.

I wonder if Toyota will fix the hole in guage cluster next to the trip reset where mosquitoes get in and trap themselves. I've had the same two dead mosquitoes hanging out next to my tachometer for 8 years.

Keep in mind, mpg's are suspect. If you're buying a truck for the mpg's....you'd be better off knocking out the back window of a prius. Also, financially, just keep your second gen. It really isn't worth the beating you'll take at the dealer/bank for a couple of suspect mpgs, and a round wheel arch.

+1, why my paid-off gen 1 is still much cheaper to drive than a new Tacoma!

In real world the 3.5L V6 will probably get 2 mpg better than the 4.0L V6. Everyone on here is hating on the Colorado V6 real world mpgs but for some reason thinks that the '16 Tacoma V6 will average 25. Keep dreaming. The 2nd gen will probably get better towing mpgs than the high strung 3.5L so MPGs will probably be a wash 2nd gen vs "3rd" gen.

EPA should test mpgs in NYC, Bay Area, Seattle metro, LA, Dallas, etc.... to get us some real #s. Not from an air conditioned laboratory.

The resistor has been updated. GM is actually having the same problem on the H3's and Colorado's from the same years.

Never save any money buying a new truck.

I "could" use a new one, nothing out there is really blowing my socks off to plunk down my cash, $30K+ keeps my old craaaap running an awful long time. Hell, my knee-grows you can pick up three 1st gens for $30K...

The H3 and the Tacoma are interchangeable. Both were made by Denso I believe originally. The Colorado unfortunately has one less setting but is almost the same part. It can be moded to fit, but it is not a plug and play fix for the Colorado.

It depends. I've seen plenty of people have an engine issue, then a transmission issue, then an ignition issue, then a transfer case issue...

Sometimes buying a newer truck can save you money over running a money pit.

The crappy part is my lethargic 3.4 liter gets roughly the same MPG has a the GM 6.2 liter V8. At some point I will have to shell out major $ for a new truck. That is why I am waiting to see how the gen 3 Tacoma V6 performs.

True...still that is under $10K in repairs, with a truck I have known for the last 14 years. (buying a spare used one or 3 is an unkown)

A fresh brandy new would be nice...but nothing out there really exciting me. Oil burner Collie maybe...but no manual trans, no extra cab...and well..it is a GM product...which is a slight step above as Dodge. ...imo.
