This. The fact is, even with near-perfect driving training, and near-perfect attentive and skilled drivers....mistakes & accidents will happen (tire pops, signal ligh malfunctions, sudden black ice, etc)....and these "expensive" safety features will keep people alive.

I thought I would be happy with my 1st gen forever...but the amount of insane idiotic death crashes that hurt innocent people I see on the news (Vegas) gives me pause. More chance to live in an accident is just one of many things to include in the calculus to decide to upgrade or not.

PS: totally concur that our driver training sucks in the states. so. many. idiots.

I don't think the added safety features is a bad thing...I don't feel like a personally need it though, is what I am saying. When your number is up, your number is up.

Basically want an updated version the size of the 1st gen, with a touch more power (250ish TQ is enough for me) and 30 mpg hwy. Toyota makes that very vehicle...just not here...kinda lame that we don't get that option in the US.

Probably because of our age difference. When I get to 50 and have my mortgage paid off and enough money in the bank to be a little stupid from time to time I'm sure I'll be more risky with my life. Ever since I had a kid though I've watched a few people my age in the same situation die from taking to many risks. Don't get me wrong, I'll keep playing hockey and offroading which are dangerous, but I'll wear a mask and wheel with others who are good safe people just to make sure I get to go home every night to those who need me.

If you need an upgraded first gen, I'd hate to say it, then you should just buy a first gen and do a Diesel swap. You'll have exactly what you want.

I would imagine self driving cars will be made mandatory...take the human err out of the equation. Assuming that will happen in my lifetime...guess I might have another 40-50 years here...that is unless I get t-boned in my 1st gen, before that ;)

I feel like the population is too dense anyway. We are seriously attempting to engineer out Darwin. We are well on our way to the exact situation in Idiocracy.

I am slowing down, have lost several friends over the years. Don't do nearly as much nutty things as I used to, however I do feel like I lived a fulfilled life for the most part, maybe that is it?

I have definitely thought about it, but damn, $25K buys an awful lot of fuel & repairs for my current rides. Do I really want to dump a $25K engine swap into a vehicle that has 300K on it? If I am going that, might as well buy a brand new truck with a warranty.

aaahhh... I am never happy. :) LOL!

I'd trade in my truck for a boosted Tacoma and I don't mean a TRD SC either! I've driven my sister's VW CC. The turbo lag is barely and I mean barely noticeable. It pulls nicely all the way to the redline.

IMO: Turbo> SC all day, everyday

Wishful thinking......Crosses finger for it to come down the road in the 2017-2018 Tacoma as a alternative to a diesel and 3rd gen XRunner :D

Even better would be if Toyota would design a small displacement V6, like Ford with the 2.7 L Ecoboost, that could post better numbers than the 3.5 L with even more Torque. Eliminate both the standard engines, go turbo with both, and charge for it. Toyota would never do it but people would buy it.

Agreed. As they're saying the Camry is getting the turbo for sure. It only makes sense, since that engine can be mounted in really anything FWD, RWD, AWD. The discontinuation of the s/c's also leaves a factory turbo to be desired as for more performance.

Praying to the boost Gods

I really like the versatile of this engine. FWD, RWD, AWD, and maybe down the road....Mid engine for a resurrection of the MR2 Turbo? I know wishful thinking lol.

Ah this comment is pure brilliance....
Everybody just look at people replacing their 80's style plate bumpers ( like ARB) with new age plastic ones to protect trucks from trees, also those 80's style rock sliders are replaced by aluminum/plastic steps to protect better from side impact of couple ton boulders.
    /sarcasm:rolleyes:
My Land Cruiser has a bumper so thick, you can weld to it. I take that over piece of new age plastic any day.

A 60's body on an 80's chassis with a LS swapped in makes me tingly in my special area.
